B&K Frequency Sweep Generator

Tom Cumberland
Senior Electrical Research Engineer Tom Cumberland adjusts the B&K Frequency Sweep Generator prior to plotting the frequency response curve.

This is a vintage analogue speaker frequency-response measuring device identical to the one originally used in the National Research Council's anechoic chamber. We still use the B&K from time to time because it doesn't work on a series of frequency points (like LMS), but instead measures a continuous sweep across the entire audio frequency range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The drawback to this machine for everyday use is that it is impossible to work with the data after the sweep or to store it.
