I killed time on my free afternoon in Ottawa in a Chapters. I picked up a copy of the graphic novel "The Watchmen" for my nephew because I recalled him complaining he lost his copy and wanted to re-read it before the movie comes out this month.

I started into it with the intent of just browsing it a bit out of curiosity and suddenly had it finished before I checked out of the hotel a day later. I'm not saying I wouldn't have enjoyed a simple comic book style, superhero story, but I have to admit, this was much more. It is one of the most dark and complex stories I have read in any format in a long time. A pleasant surprise.

I can't imagine a director of the upcoming movie being able to pull off all the time shifting, sidelines and more importantly the underlying morality and philosophical issues while having to deal with the cheesy costumes required, but if he can, it should be a blockbuster. If he can't, it will go down in serious flames.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.
