There are a lot of changes from the original EP800 amp to the new one. Really the only thing that is the same is the DSP board. The new amp has one power supply for each woofer and one amp for each voice coil (2 power supplies and 4 amps). The original amp ran everything from one power supply and one amp. This made the original configuration a 1 ohm load to the amp. I think this was pushing it just a bit too low as some of them seemed to blow the fuses or the mosfets or both. They both end up being about the same wattage, which is over 1,000 watts, but the new design gets there with a lot less current draw per amplifier. To put a finer point on this new design there are technically 8 amplifiers running. Though the DSP board will accept either a differential or single ended input it outputs only differential. In each of the 4 amplifiers there are two channels; one channel is the pull and the other the push.

Another change is the move to the dual XLR / ¼ phone input jack. This jack has completely separate pin outs for the XLR and ¼ phone for differential and single ended inputs. The standard RCA connection is achieved with the 90 degree adaptor that goes from RCA to ¼ phone. This is a change that is happening on all of our sub amplifiers because we found the single largest service issue was the breaking of the RCA input. Most likely this was caused by either stepping on the cable or pushing the sub too tight against the wall. First we tried 2 mounting screws on the RCA input but it was not enough. The 90 degree adaptor is the proper solution because the RCA jack is now pointing down. If you step on the cable it will just come unplugged.
