What would happen if you swapped just one of the + or - sides for the fronts on the back of the receiver? Say swap the left/right - wire, and left the + side normal...

Randy, if you only switch the + / - on
one of the speakers, then turn the volume up reeeeeeally loud, the room will spin.
Just re-read closer what you wrote... you should. get no sound from either speaker - there's nothing to complete the circuit.
