Simply amazing use of technology. And it's FREE. I've been zipping and zooming around the planet for a while now.

Oh Sure! Get me all excited (and at my age, that doesn't happen often ), and all I get is this.

Google Earth downloads temporarily delayed

Thanks for your interest in Google Earth, but we're sorry we can't offer you a download right now. As you know, Google Earth is in beta, and we're still building out our ability to take on new users. We're making good progress, and expect to be able to accept new downloads shortly, so we recommend you check back daily at earth.google.com. We hope to be able to welcome you and other new planet surfers soon.

We appreciate your patience,

The Google Earth Team

Well, it was available yesterday! I guess half the planet is trying now and they're overloaded.

Is this like Microsoft's Terraserver site, or is it different then that?

The Earth program is far better than Google Maps. It can do seamless zooming from "outer space" levels to super close-up. You can change the view so you're looking at the surface of the earth at an angle and it will show you the terrain in 3D. I've been to K2, Everest, and the many peaks in the western United States. They're all rendered real-time in 3D. Also, some cities even have 3D added on top of the maps. Mind-blowing.

Downloading right now, it is available again I just got my 1.5MB DSL last week, I love high speed, beats the hell out of slow dial up. I'll be installing it soon, and providing feedback...

Did a search on my house....and it is off by three houses west. It is a nicer house though.

For some reason, I've noticed portions of maps do not completely load, basically look out of focus. Not sure if it is a bandwidth issue or something?

Hey Saturn: great system by the way!! I noticed you have Musical fidelity integrated amp and cd player. Any experience with Musical Fidelity tube buffer X-10 V3?

Chess: No probs with the file. I'll wait till its available.

thyname: Yes I have and it does filter a little bit but not much. It is no different than a Line stage preamp with only 12AX7 tubes in the path. You would get a more tubey sound going with a proper tube pre-amp or better yet a SET tube power amp. Thats where you will hear that tube sound that a lot of people are talking about.

Rats,
This sounds really cool, and I have everything I need to run it EXCEPT a graphics card.
Dang.

I'd try downloading it anyway. Your computer must have some sort of graphics card or chip or you'd be staring at a blank screen.

I tried, and whenever I tried to open it it would just sit there and never open.

Ah,
I just deleted the one I downloaded last night, and did it again, and now it is going through the install process.
This one sounds cool.
