ok, currently i have 2 m60's as mains and im lovin them, im wondering would a single m60 as a centre work well? as there is only a small price difference between a single m60 and the vp150.. my room is fairly small (12x13) but i am talking about future proofing, plus i like the idea of 3 full range speakers up front, im am concerned about the ports though, as it would be place in a custom built etertainment centre (similar to Tharkun's type of setup) as he uses a single m80... im just wondering, could i plug the two back ports and leave the front one open? or would that do harm to the speaker? thanks for any help

I assume your planning on having the 60 sideways? Not sure it would give you as good results with the tweeter positioned on one side, the VP150 has a tweeter on each end of the cabinet and 3 woofers in the middle. Now if your planning on standing it up, it might work, but then your TV or Screen would be pretty high to be above the speaker.

Do a search on Tharkun. He's got a similar setup with 5 (!) M80s and 2 QS8s. And a whole lot of Halo amps.

Hi darren700,

Don't plug any ports--you will change the tuning of the entire reflex system in unpredictable ways. Just leave a few inches or so behind the single M60 for the ports to vent the low bass pressure and you should be OK.

I replaced my VP150 with a M60 about 6 months ago and I'm extrememly happy with the results. However, I do not have the speaker housed in a cabinet. It just sit upright between my two mains under my plasma. Thus, I cannot comment on how the speaker will perform inside a cabinet.

Most people cannot use a vertical center because of their configuration (television, furniture, etc.). However, if this isn't an issue for you, I strongly recommend using a M60 for your center, creating a perfectly seamless front soundstage.

Darren700,

Also be wary of placing the M60 inside any kind of cabinetry that results in the M60 being recessed inside a box or enclosure. Adjacent reflections and boundary effects may significantly degrade the speaker's sound quality and dispersion. Tharkun has his center M80 on some kind of base that extends during use to keep the M80 away from adjacent surfaces.
