was booming a cd last friday at what i would call neighbor complaining levels and noticed a newer cd skipping. sub is about 10 feet away, and two m60's are on either side of player about 3 to 4 feet away. could the skipping be due to the shattering levels?

twodan,
I have a cd in my collection that has the odd skips and persistent stutters depending on which cd player i throw it into. It is probably just a badly burned disc. I bought a new U2 cd not long ago and it would not play at all. I had to bring it back for a replacement. Again, probly just a badly burned disc. They are rare but it does happen.

That kind of oddity aside, i have also skipped discs when the vibrations got to be too much however i have not been able to do this in quite some time (i.e much older equipment, cd player w/o oversampling, speaker sat on the same surface as the cd player, etc.)

Hence my thoughts offhand, if the cd is new and you have not played it before, it could very well be the cd itself. See if you can't check it against another cd player or even your own again but on lower volume levels. Replay it several times just to be sure and if it is defective you should bring it back.
It is easier to replace a cd than have to start buying newer equipment or accesssories if the cd player laser bouncing is to blame.

It would seem to me there are two possibilities.

1) the CD is scratched and the datastream is no longer intact.

2) You're producing so much bass that the laser is being physically moved off tract.

Try playing the CD in another player. If it still has the skipping, your disk is scratched. Hopefully, it's new enough that you can take it back.

If it doesn't happen, you may have to either turn your listening down a notch or find a way to dampen the jarring your CD player is feeling.

I say we go back to this morning's subwoofer issue and load it down with a sack of bricks again.
I think that is going to be my new solution for everything.

CD skipping? Load it down with bricks.
Boss is nagging you? Give him a pillow case of heavy sand.
Car engine not working? Toss some cinder blocks in there.
Neighbors cat keeps dumping in your flower bed?.....

I have to rethink my fix-it-all solution. And I thought it was duct tape.

Hold a hardrive insidea case without brackets...duct tape
open wound ... duct tape
any hole or tear ... use duct tape

Can't you use duct tape to secure the sub to the floor?

ran out of prophylactics .... use du..
