I'm looking to get a fuller sound. We listen to a lot of acoustic music--need more mid/bass. Will this little unit (Denon M31 or something like that) be able to drive these speakers? We have a small bungalow, and space is a major concern. PARTICULARLY for my wife. M22s might be too big even... Rather stick with stereo--not a 2.1 system, although the unit does have a sub pre-out... Any thoughts?

I think the M3 would fit the bill nicely. Has a bit of a bass hump which gives it a fuller sound--from what I've gathered from the forum here.

What kind of power does that M31 put out? I have a Denon UM 50, or something like that, I used in college. Used it mainly for headphone listening, but I remember reading a warning about damaging speakers because it did not have enough power. It came with some Mission speakers that were specifically designed for the Denon Micro unit.

By the way, welcome to the boards!

"Full" sound from a small Axiom speaker? Yup, gotta agree; the M3 is the way to go

Saw a test a few years back of the M3s being driven by a 3 or 5 watt tube amp and doin' just fine!!

Another vote for the M3. Despite the specs, I found the M3 to be a bit more efficient than even M60s -- when A/B-ing them I had to turn the volume down a bit for the M3s and up a bit for the M60s.

I have my M3's in a large room and they can get the SPL's up there.

Very nice speakers for a small/low power setup.

The denon DM50 which is the one I have is 30 watts per channel 6ohm. I think the dm31 is either 20 or 25 watts per channel 6ohm. I have been thinking about changing my small mission speakers as well.

For the record, right now I'm using m22tis with a decade-old tape player receiver from kmart. It weighs about as much as the cardboard box my cables came in did.. maybe less. Works fine. I haven't tried blasting it, but it gets to a decent volume, for metal and such.

A micro system would(hopefully) have more power than this, so the denon should be fine.

I got a M30 for my wife: she liked the PSB Alpha B speakers so that's what we got her.

The UD-M30 puts out 20w/chanel so both the M3 and M22 should be suitable as their min wattage is stated at ten. The M2 has a min wattage req of 15 watts so might be a little more problematical. When auditioning the system the shop was running it with Axiom M3's back when they still had a retail presence. Sounded awesome to me.

Egg

P.S. Long time lurker first time poster. We use M22's coupled to a cheap Technics SA-DX750 for our living room system: works great.

P.S.S. Thanks for all the great advice that I've read here over the last couple years.
