I had planned to welcome grantc79 into my home on Sunday to audition my Axioms but he called it off because of the hurricane. In his last PM to me he said that he wasn't going to evacuate. I hope he changed his mind. I evacuated to northern Louisiana and have made my way back down to Baton Rouge. I'm currerntly living in a camper trailer at shipyard as a (Que Tom Petty) Refugee. My home is about 60 miles north of New Orleans in a town called Talisheek. The eye of the Hurricane passed over my house with sustained wind of 135MPH. I was able to get home Tuesday afternoon. The road off of the highway to my house is about 3/4 of a mile long and was impassable by car. As we walked toward home we counted 81 fallen trees across the road. The final 100 yards revealed most of the trees in my yard were down with one large tree on the house. It had broken through the roof and made a hole about 2ft x 5ft. The rain coming in from the roof ruined the hardwood floor that I had finished 2 weeks earlier. The Axioms survived. I spent the next day cutting the tree off of my house and partially repairing the roof. It could be a month or more before power is returned so I'll have to live away for some time. My job is in Metairie, LA which is a suburb of N.O. I'm not sure it is still there.Luckily there is also a branch office in Baton Rouge which is where I am now.
I'll try to post pictures later if anyone is interested in seeing them. I know your all pretty tired of hearing about it. I've read the thread in The water Cooler section on Katrina and it was getting a little to heated so I decided to post here. Don't believe everything you see on TV. In most places it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be. Unfortunately in some places it's worse.
We appreciate everything that's being done.

Great to hear that PsychoPete, glad to hear your house did not get leveled like some others. I've never been in a hurricane, but back in 74 was in a Tornado in my home town of Ankeny, Iowa that pretty much leveled the whole town of 20,000 at the time.

Glad to hear your ok

I'm also glad to hear that you are OK PsychoPete, hopefully Grantc will be OK and we'll hear from him in due time. Rebuilding from a hurricane takes a lot of time and patience, time will heal though. Keep us posted and good luck.

Also glad to hear that you're ok and that while it's bad enough; it sure could have been worse.

I make fun alot about last years three hurricanes here in Fla and how I took my Axioms along with me each time.(which I did!!!)But in your case; it's not exactly funny. Very sorry to hear about the new floor and the hole in the roof; but glad to hear that the speakers made it And that you are in fact OK! Yes, I'm sure that many of us would be more than interested in seeing some photos! Now I'm sure that it's going to feel like months before everything returns to normal and you won't EVER look at another hurricane season quite the same way again!!(I know I don't)

Now that we know that you are at least ok, we have a real face to put on this current disaster in the form of grantc79. I just hope that we'll get more good news before this is all over.

Pete, relieved to hear you are OK. I'm sure the damage to your home is disheartening, but thank heaven YOU are intact. I hope we can say the same about grantc79. Please keep us as informed as your circumstances permit. We'll be thinking of you.

I'm also glad to hear that you survived. I'm sure none of us northerners have any idea of the devastation that surrounds you. It is unbelievable to me that a storm could cause all this.

This is one northener that has an idea of how bad it must be.Back in 1990 our area was hit by an F5 tornado. There was 310 mph winds that came with this monster. It pretty much leveled the town of Plainfeild Il. and caused wide spread damage to all the surrounding towns. Now i would have to think if I were to take that and multiply it many times over that would be what the folks in the gulf region is going through.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. It's good to see you posting.

I appreciate all of your concern guys.

I was worried about you as well Pete and hoping that you came out OK. I'm sorry to hear that your home was damaged but thankfully it seems like it wasn't whiped out as many others were. I hope you can get your house back together quickly and you aren't stuck as a refugee for too long.

As for me, my father talked me into leaving on Sunday around noon. I've heard that people were evacuated off the roof of my apartment complex, but me being on the 3rd floor I'm hoping I don't have flood damage.

My parents house in Hahnville is fine which is the main thing for me.

Thanks again for your concern guys and take care.

Grant
