ok guys. here's the new dilemma...i currently have 2 Paradigm PS1200 12" bandpass subs. they are great. they hit hard, are loud as hell, and do everything a sub should do. 250 watts rms v 2.0

now i have a chance to get 2 15" Def Tech PF15 TL+ subs for about the same price if i sell, and i have offers, my 2 Paradigm subs.

should i do this? the PF15tl+ are 500 watts...front firing and very well rated. they are very nice. i took one home, and boy it goes low...and loud..but it seems to be much "tighter" bass than the ps1200..is this normal? the ps1200 seems to through out more bass...but....um...not as crisp or clean. they both shake the foundations of my house...so volume is not an issue. however, the def tech is only 2 years old and and the ps1200 is about 4-5 years old. is this a no brainer? am i a moron not to be JUMPING on these def techs asap? he gave me one to try out, like i said...and since i'm basically doing a straight trade...maybe only 100.00 outta my pocket at most...should i do this? MOST everything i have read about the def tech pf15tl+ is good. some issues with the older pf15 and the pf15tl..but not the + models... need thoughts and opinions asap. thanks!!!

I would look else where for a sub.How much are the Def Techs going to cost.

why look elsewhere?? something wrong with the def tech 15"s??? the guy who owns them has all JM Lab Electa BE's, a 92 inch projection screen, and very high end equp...i'm sure if they sucked he would not have bought 3 of them. right? i am getting them for 400.00 canadian each....and i'm selling my ps1200's for 350.00 each...

Apparently nobody does, Michael, but Tom Nousaine's tests included both subs. Although the numbers aren't directly comparable, it does appear that the PF15TL+ has greater extension and output than the PS1200.

well, i read all that...and it gives me not much more info. i have the def tech 15" hooked up in my house right now..and i gotta say, it is much "cleaner" bass than the ps1200. i mean, the ps1200 rocks..for sure and i'm thrilled with it. but all things being equal, i'd be a fool to pass up basically trading my ps1200's, which are about 4-5 years old for a 2 year old def tech 15" right? thats about all i'm gettin at. the def tech IS a better sub...bar none right? comparing directly to the ps1200? also, i think i like the front firing better than the band pass. and since i'm gettin these subs at a steal, 400.00 cad, i'd say i should jump on them...so i think i will. i just wanted to see what others might have to say and help me decide. i guess i could always get a servo 15 if i change my mind. i'm sure i'd have no problems selling the def techs 15" for what i'm paying so i'd lose nothin right??? other than my time that is.

thanks..more info and thoughts are WELCOME and appreciated!!!

You say it sounds cleaner and Nousaine indicates that it's stronger, so go with it.

I really don't know much about these two subwoofers. However, the PS1200's are bandpass subs... they will produce ~3db less spl at frequencies that the box is not tuned for. Bandpass subs generally have less "tight" and more "boomy" bass. At least this is true for car sub enclosures. Anyway, it seems like a no brainer to me as well, but I'm not there to hear them. Either way I'm sure they will sound great.
