I know there's a good amount of Denon folks here, so I thought this would be a good forum for advice on this matter...

I'm going to re-read the manual tonight, but do any of you Denon guys have suggestions/advice for adding in another pair of QS8's to my 1082? What is the procedure, exactly? I'm pretty sure it's a simple process, but since I've never messed w/anything involving a 7.1 setup, I just wanna make sure I do it right the first time...and hopefully stress-free... Just to clarify- I'm really looking for advice w/setup on my Denon 1082, not speaker placement, really.

Thanks!

If the 1082 is 7.1 compatible, I'm guessing it is similar to other Denons. Obviously you have to hook up the speakers to the rear speaker terminals Other than that you will need to go into the Setup menu on the denon, and there should be a location where you tell the receiver to turn on the Rear speakers. For my setup it is in the Speaker Setup menu. From there you would have to make sure the dB levels are adjusted for that channel. Should be pretty straight forward...

Isn't the Denon 1082 either a 5.1 or a 6.1 receiver? I could be wrong, of course.

It's a 6.1 receiver.

Sounds like a prime situation for 3 Qs8's.

Philippe, your reading of the manual may have answered your question, but since your 1082(3802)is a 7.1 receiver the setup is pretty straightforward. You'd connect the back surround terminals to the QS8s as normal, of course, and in the speaker setup menu show the presence of the speakers. Since the 1082 doesn't have DPLIIx(and there is no 7.1 format)you won't have stereo back speakers, but even for a mono 6th channel it's suggested to use two rather than one back speaker.

It's definitely 7.1...I'm not sure why, but some place on the net have it listed as being 6.1...strange.
Anyway, I checked out the setup/manual last night and you guys are right- it's very simple. One thing I read up on that I was completely unaware of was the "SB CH Auto Flag Detect" (set it to OFF to enable digital processing of 5.1 sources-->6.1) and the Matrix/Non-Matrix/off options (matrix= digital matrix processing, non-matrix= same SL/SR signals are sent to SB speakers, Off= nothing is sent to SB speakers); good stuff to know about. Now, I just have to wait until the end of the month... wah.

I saw it advertised as a 6.1 receiver, that's why I said it was. Some of these etailers need to understand what they are selling a bit more.

Right, Philippe; sometimes even receiver manuals make some sense if you read them enough. You did pick up one of the more obscure points that allows using the 6th and 7th back speakers even with 5 channel DVDs(i.e. flag detect off, matrix on to extract a mono back surround signal). Another one is using Neo:6 with 2 channel material.
