OK,ive been thinking about a projector for a while,and you guys are making it a little easier to jump in the water.so maybe someone can answer a question i have.in my room i would be able to mount a projector about 8' high,and the top of the screen i could get about 6' high and would be about 12 from projector.(the room slants down pretty low,its kind of shaped like the vp150.... hmmmm how did that happen)would the height differance throw the picture off,or are there controls to compensate for the height differance.and if there is,does the quality get worse.i can email a picture to help explain it a little better or try to put it on this site somehow....thanks Ron

Just make sure your mount can follow bend with the slpe of you ceiling and then just use the keystone to adjust it to square off. Usually it is best not to keystone because some dithering happens but because of your not so standard setup the keystone will work fine. Some projectors actually have no image change in keystoning but not all Panny L300. A lens shift can help too such as in a Sanyo PLV-Z1. As with all projectors ambient light control is a must to get a great picture.

In fact, many projectors have a throw geometry with an "offset" -- meaning that, when you ceiling mount the projector without tilt, the top of the projected image will be lower than the lens center. My projector (Yamaha LPX-500, a modified clone of the Epson TW100) is one of those. So, with one of these "positive-offset" projectors, if you mount the projector so that the lens center is, say, 6.5'-7' from the floor, it is likely that you will not need to tilt the projector.

At any rate, I would avoid using the digital keystone correction if at all possible, although you may not see the image "softening" unless you watch true-HD materials.

FWIW, I use both horizontal and vertical keystoning on my Sony HS-10, and I can't see any picture degradation. I don't have any HD sources though; my highest-res source is 480p DVDs.
