I don't use Comcast as my ISP, but my experience with them as a cable company has been uniformly negative. The few people I do know who use them an a ISP aren't particularly enthusiastic either. Depends on how bad you want it, I suppose. I have DSL with BellSouth and I have no complaints about the speed or service. Obviously BellSouth won't be an option for you, but I'm sure there are other DSL providers in your area who offer a solid product and don't charge the same arm and leg that Comcast does.

Maybe different areas of the country get different service... but I've been happy with Comcast for my internet provider. I honestly haven't compared their pricing to others, as the package deal we have with television cable and the fact that I haven't had any problems haven't encouraged me to look around.... You may want to check with people in your immediate area as to the "speed" and service they get....

The biggest problem is I know of no one that has their internet through the cable. That makes a comparison pretty difficult.I too have my cable with Comcast with no big complaints.

Don't know a thing about Comcast, Rick, but I've had Cox cable internet for going on 4 years now, and I've been VERY happy with it, and would not want to go to slower DSL. I think Mark is correct that it really all depends on how reliable DSL and Comcast are in YOUR area.

I don't know where you are in Il, but have you checked the Local HDTV Info and Reception area at AVS to see if there is a thread about Comcast in your area. I noticed there is one for Comcast in the Chicago area. You might be able to get some opinions from folks near you who use Comcast.

I had Comcast cable internet when I lived in New Jersey and I never had a problem with them. I know have Time Warner Cable and am just as happy.

Comcast has been good here too. I wouldn't look at switching to something else unless Verizon finally gets FIOS installed around here.

I have had Comcast for over 5 years and when comparing it to my son's DSL I will stick with Comcast.

I used to have Mediacom, which is our Cable provider in Iowa. Cable internet was great as I was one of the first homes in my area that signed up. The problem is that Cable internet is shared Bandwidth, so the more people on that trunk the slower it can become. Personally I prefer our Qwest DSL service, which is a dedicated service from the switch to your home, not shared. I am currently on the 1.5mbps package, which is great. They do offer a faster 5mbps plan as well as a slower 256Kps plan.

I use Comcast Highspeed here in Washington, D.C. I find it quite fast. My wife and I both surf at the same time using a wireless hub, and I've never had problems with super-fast download times. I found the Comcast to be at least twice or three times faster than our older T-1 line that we had hooked up in the apartment (which, as I understood it, was high speed through the telephone jack...I could be wrong about it being a T-1, though).

I will stick with Comcast until something better comes along. I only wish it were a little cheaper (~$50US is a pretty steep).
