I'm about ready to start running cables for my new room and am wondering if HDMI would be a better, or at the very least equal interconnect to the RCA and component cables?

Our new TV will have two HDMI inputs and I'm thinking the set top box and DVD player can be connected via the HDMI cables...providing this type of interconnect is indeed the one to use.

How long of a run are you talking, I have a 25ft Component and 25ft HDMI/DVI from Monoprice Dot Com and it works fine.

All I can say is plan for the future, make it easy to change out if technology changes. I purchased Cable Raceways from CableOrganizer Dot Com.

I think I already told you this once before, but I have short term memory.

Randy I'm looking at a 45-50 ft run from where the components are located to where the TV will be. Up a wall, through the length of the ceiling, back down the other wall and a couple or so feet to the TV.

I'm trying to figure out what type of cabling I want to install. It will all be in-wall and in-ceiling.

You probably did Randy. But believe it or not whenever you PMed me I somehow mistakenly deleted your long and very detailed PM regarding the interconnects and projectors connects after just a quick read through...don't ask me how I did it, but I did.

If your running everything in-wall, I'd rather be safe than sorry. So, it might be smart to run both component and HDMI to play it safe. As you know most receivers with convert all signals with Component switching and good bandwidth. Most of the newer receivers will now do HDMI. It would suck if you got it all finished in and found that you should have ran something else. Even if you don't use it, at least it is there.

I like the raceways because they have a latching door, so I can always swap out the cables as technology changes, and you know it will some day. The heavy duty ABS plastic is low profile and paintable. It has adhesive backing.

In my situation it worked out good as I used this a divider to change colors on my ceiling. Most of the rec room is a white ceiling. However, my HT is a dark blue, so this was a great divider to blend into a different color.

Anyway, wow 50 feet, that's a heck of a run. I have heard some stories about HDMI not likeing longer runs, not sure. 25ft works good for me with no problems...

JohnK was saying that a run of 50 ft using 24 ga HDMI with good quality equipment is fine.

I'll have to go and check out that site for the raceways, I was thinking about using 2" PVC for conduit from component to component.
