Hi, saw the spike feet that come with the speakers. Do they tear the carpet up or should I use the rubber feet? Thanks.

I use spikes on my speakers and have never had a problem with them tearing up the carpet. The one thing they do over the rubber feet (for me) is to make the speakers more stable.

I've never found spikes to tear up the carpet, but I know they make it very difficult to move the speakers should you ever need too.

As is, I don't use the spikes or rubber feet. I probably should use one or the other, but the carpet that's currently occupying my theater room, well aside from it needing to be replaced, it's, well it's kind of hard to explain. It's not real thick or fluffy, so my speakers sit pretty flush and even on the ground.

Be that as it may, I'll probably put the spikes on at some point, if not, then at least the rubber feet.

I use spikes with my sub with no problem, but no feet at all with my regular speakers, again, with no problem.

...but then again; since I haven't used spikes or rubber feet in the past, maybe I'm missing something important and don't even realize it!!..........Arrrrrrgh!!

I use the spiked feet on my speakers. I did make a small snag in the carpet after putting the spikes on my EP600. If you are moving any of your speakers even a short distance, don't drag them with the spikes on. Find your optimal placement first and then put on the spikes.

A couple of other cautions as well:

When handling the spikes, both in and out of the package, use caution; these things are heavy and can rapidly fall to the floor unmindfull of anything(like feet)that may be in their way!

And when setting the speakers in place, again be mindfull of any feet(human)that may be in the path of the spikes on their way to a secure footing on the floor!

These cautions are born in the uncomfortable experiences of your other honorable, selfless Axiom board members who have volunteered themselves as human gunea pigs so that the rest of us can operate in a safe and secure environment with all of our toes intact.

Technically, the spikes DO damage the carpet. If I have my facts straight, they are designed to penetrate the carpet and padding and touch the flooring beneath. This holds any physical coupling with the structure of your house to the barest minimum (just four tiny little points). A GOOD thing. However, once the sub is removed, these 4 little holes in the carpeting and padding should be virtually unnoticeable.

You should use either the spikes or the rubber feet. If you don't, you'll have 4 little holes in your subwoofer, which will possibly allow air to escape as the driver moves reducing it's performance, and adding some weird little noises as the air exits through those 4 little holes. NOT a good thing.

Those threaded "holes" are only in the framing of the sub, no? I pretty sure they do not go all the way through the sub cabinet, so there's no chance of any "air leaks", whether you use the feet or not.

Quite often the holes *will* go all the way through because the threaded inserts are a lot stronger if you insert them from the back.
