Where are the rest of the speakers/TV/etc? That might be useful.

The TV is the Brown Box top left of the room
I currently have small JBL speakers located
fronts
in the top left corner on a 4ft high ledge
and next to the first doorway wall mounted
Sub to the left of the tv in the corner
Rears in the bottom left corner at ear level on the ledge
and behind the sofa by the window at ear level on the ledge
The blurry info on the right of the image was due to me removing a watermark the demo software placed.

I guess I need to clarify I am looking to update my current 5.1 speaker set up to Axioms I am looking at the
front M60
center VP150
surrounds QS8
Sub EP500
So I pretty much know where I am going to put the fronts and the center. The sub I will need to expirement with. As for the surrounds I was looking for some advice from someone who as placed these speakers in a room with a configuration like this.

I'm guessing the armchair is the primary listening position? I'd probably put them on the back wall, fairly high mounted, with good separation.

I agree with Ken. You could put the right rear on the back wall about where the "28'" label is (or above the window if there is enough space),and the left one on the back wall, a few inches from the side wall.
The only other alternative I can come up with is to suspend them from the ceiling with Axiom's Full Metal Bracket, or Omnimounts.

I have One foot above the window is this enough?
Also the sofa is the prime location The sofa in the picture is not the true shape of this sofa. It is shaped more in the shape of a half U kinda like this \____/
I was wondering if I would get better surround sound if the speakers where mounted on the sides?
Left side no problem for the right I would need to use a stand or a ceiling mount.
Is this worth the effort or will rear placement provide a good surround effect.
If I was to mount them on the sides would I mount them at 90 to 110 degrees from the sofa?
What is the best height?
Thanks for the advice

Jerry, as Ken and Jack have suggested, the back wall mounting(roughly 6' up)should work well, and if widely separated wouldn't be much different from a 110 degree side arrangement.

My first thought would be to move the TV to the end wall at the left, shuffle the furniture round a bit, and then hang the QS8s above the window on the bottom wall and at the same height on the top wall. Would that work or is the window too high ?

Thanks for the suggestion. What I did not put on the picture was the fireplace on the left wall. It is centered on the left wall. Since the TV is a Plasma it could be put on the wall but the wife is already at her limit with changes. I need to make small changes. She is not a happy camper since I took the doors of the entertainment center to get the TV in it. The doors would slide into the sides looked OK but 5 inches is 5 inches. 37 inch or 42 inch no brainer for me
As far as the window height the top of the window is 7ft above the floor leaving 1 foot for the speaker is this to high up? I can allways place it to the right of the window at a lower level ie 6 foot.
Thanks for all the advice
