i got a dvd that is scrached (on the burned side; not the face cover). Anything i can do to clean it up a bit??

Depends on how deep the scratch is. I would use some car polish and polish from the inside of the disc out and try to clean.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

car polish?? you mean car polish cloth.
what material is the cloth???
the scratch is a 6 or a 7 out of 10.

I mean use car polish to clean the DVD.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

I've used tooth paste and a soft cloth with good results. If it's a burned disc vs. pressed, you may be SOL. Burned discs are a lot more fragile than pressed.

Yep, Alan from Axiom has told us many times that you can use car polish/wax. Try searching for "scratched cds" or "scratched dvd".
