I am in the process of outfitting a home theater and need some advice on a receiver and subwoofer placement (a different post).

I have auditioned the new Yamaha RX-V2600, and I liked it. It has gotten excellent reviews, has a ton of features, etc. Obviously the speakers I listened to with the receiver were not Axioms. So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how the Axiom-Yamaha combo sounds? Yamaha has the reputation for being on the "bright" side (although I didn't notice excessive brightness, but that could be because of the speakers), and Axiom (and other metal tweeter speakers) have a similar reputation. (I know, they're not bright, but accurate, etc.) My concern is whether the combo will cause fatigue.

I'm in the process of buying M60s, a VP 150, Q8s, and either a EP 500 or EP 600 (leaning toward the 500) sub.

Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.

I know there are lots on this forum with Axiom/Yammy combinations. I think you'll be very happy and the whole notion of bright will be water under the bridge. I'm sure they will chime in here and give you some feedback.

I was told Denons sounded mechanical and Axioms were harsh, all of this hogwash is simply not true.

Dave, don't know how big your room is, but I have a very large room and the EP500 can pretty much knock the walls down.

I have the 500 which has gotten good WAF. Plenty of great bass! But, if you can swing it, get the 600. You won't regret either purchase.

Dave, welcome. The Axiom/Yamaha "reputations" to which you refer are taken seriously only by the uninformed or misinformed. For a receiver or speaker to have an audible "brightness" when reproducing material which doesn't inherently have that characteristic itself there would have to be a significant and easily measurable deviation from flat frequency response. This simply doesn't exist. The 2600 would be excellent with your Axioms.

hello i have the yamaha rx-2500 as well as the vp150 m60's qs8 and ep500, i have had this combination for around 2 months now , and i love it
however i did make a few mistakes at first, be sure to set the yamaha to the correct ohm setting for your speakers , at first i had mine set to 8ohms which caused a slight hiss from my qs8's , i corrected this by setting the yamaha to 6 ohm's, also be sure to connect your dvd player to the reciever with the optical or digital coax connection, and read the manual that came with your dvd player for the best setting- i ended picking up the oppo 971 which works great with my yamaha
i'll have to admit at first i thought the axioms sounded harsh(bright) my wife would say tinny but after around 30 hours break in they now sound fantastic, i wouldn't give them up for anything, my favourite is the ep500 i just love how i can now feel the movie
the yamaha and the axioms definitly work well togethor just give them that 30 hour break in and im sure you will be in love

I have a RX-V2600 and like you was impressed with the reviews on the Axioms and have on order (and due to ship on Monday 20th) M60s, VP 150, Q8s, and a EP 500. Pending the time to ship to Syd Oz, I'll be able to let you know what I think soon(ish)!

Nathan, I think it's terrific that we will have an owner in "Syd Oz." We have owners in Germany, Turkey, Kuwait, Oman, and The Phillipines. Adding an Australian owner will be cool.

If you are comfortable doing so, please add yourself to the Axiom Owner's map, and, if you are willing to audition your Axioms, to the Axiom Auditions map.

I have the 4600 on a set of m80's. I had a nad 773 before it. Don't worry about brightness. Also, right out of the box, don't be alarmed at what you hear. I love my 4600 but it took a long time to sit down and properly learn how to use the eq and all it's tricks to get the perfect sound I was looking for.

I have eq settings for movies, and another for music. I love the sound I'm getting.

Get the 2600, it's a very nice receiver. If it was out when I got the 4600 I would have gotten it, and gotten a power amp with the money left over. You won't need a power amp for the 60's unless you have a huge huge room.

I have the RX-V2600 with M60tis and VP150. They sound great. In terms of the impedance setting, I just switched mine from 6 ohm to 8 ohm after I read a poster in the technical issues session in this forum. Alan from Axiomaudio will tell you to set your speaker to 8 ohm instead of 6 ohm. A lot of experts in this forum will tell you the same thing. I am just curious about the hiss you heard from QS8s because I am planning to buy a pair.
