Although not a Hemi, I did stop and get a little digital camera today. Now I just need to learn how to use the darn thing. Here's a couple of pics but keep in mind that we are far from finished ...

The two windows in the den are coming out and French doors will be installed this week for access out to the pool...

As you can see, drywall is being touched up and the baseboards haven't been caulked. Smoked glass doors will cover the equipment rack and the cabinets for fridge (beer!) and ice maker on the opposite side. I discounted the MA rack whenever I built but I believe I'll get one installed in the future.

Window treatments are on the way and I'm in the process of building four shelves that will be installed under the glass block window. Just a few months ago this was actually our screened room.

The opening going into the new room was actually an outside single door with a single window next to it, we knocked out the concrete block, added 4x4 1/4" angle to support the header and installed the French doors...I'll finish the drywall whenever the other two matching French doors will be installed.

We still have quite a ways to go but from what this looked like just 5 months ago you would be amazed. The room is 25'x 14' with the ceiling being 7'6" (average) and built like a rock. I had somewhat of a tough time getting the 600 dialed in but the room is sounding pretty darn sweet now.

Maybe one of these days I'll learn how to take decent pictures!

Wow! Another beautiful room. It looks like a showroom in a hifi shop, but nicer! I'm getting really envious of you guys! But I have to ask, is that a plaid sheet on your window (top pic)?

Sonic, that is not plaid, that is a Scot Tartan!

Nice layout for the room.

Why thank you very much for the nice compliment Sonicfox, you're too sweet!

And yes ma'am that would be my son's plaid bed sheet from who knows how many years ago...we are having plantation shutters made for the room and wanted to have the windows covered during the interim. Wife always told me those old sheets would come in handy some day!

Yeah, what Mary said.

Very nice, BrotherBob!! Beautiful home. The built-ins are fantastic.

Man, that EP600 makes the M80's look almost scrawny.

Thanks for all the kind words y'all, I appreciate it. Like I stated above, we've still got quite a ways to go with the wrapping up and finish and I didn't really want to post until everything was finished but I was talked into it and what the hey...I'm always open to criticism and tips.

Hey Rick, good job!

I actually like how the electronics are placed behind you. No distracting lights while watching tv/movies. Smart move on your part.

You've even got room for a giant sized screen and front projector...

You are already well on the way. That room is perfect and over flowing with potential. The shelves under the glass block and the other touches you have planned sound great.Your camera technique however, needs a little work. Just kidding man, keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming.

SSSSWWWWEEEEEETTTT!!!!!!

I'm glad to see that 600 as close to the 80 as it is and that you got-r dialed in. My room will be very simular.

I'd like to see pics when you get those smoked doors up on the rack. Sounds like an idea I might just 'steal'.

Look'n good bud. Nice couch too. Looks pretty comfy'

Richey, believe it or not we feel like there is still some distracting lights and are hoping that whenever the smoked glass doors gets installed it will remedy that little distraction. The TV is actually a pretty big (73") screen and although we did pre-wire for a front projector I'm not so sure we'd ever need one, the 80s are 9' apart and the TV is a smidgen less than 6' wide.

Oz, man ... I ain't quiting my day job anytime soon, I can assure you that my man.

Rick it is never necessary to wait until everything is finished before posting pics. Glad you were "talked into it." It already looks good, and will look even better when completed. Please do post pics whenever you feel like it. Love that BIG TV. VERY NICE!

I agree Jack, I hope to start a new Pics thread of my own very soon. I recently finished my basement. My digital camera most likely is old school compared to Rick's new toy, but works ok for the occasional pic.

I like your DVD choice too. Does your theater have room for one more rider?

Great looking room, I can't wait till the fiance and I buy a new place. We went to some open houses this weekend and all I could talk about was where the home theater room would be. Needless to say it drove her nuts

I just bought my 56" Samsung that currently resides in my basement and I have a 42" Sony LCD in the familiy room. I would love to get a projector for a "dedicated" movie room, but there is no way I can justify it to myself.

Ok, here is my unspectacular HT / living room in all its glory. (It doesn't even deserve its own post! )

The wide shot, taken from the hallway:

The side shot, from the other side of the living room (which serves as our office where I'm posting this from):

The perspective shot:

The front shot, taken from the couch:

The typical "kids live here" TV shot:

...and the guilty party:

As you can see, it's nothing special, but I'm quite happy with it anyway.

Oh well, nice setup.

You are doing your boy good by raising him on Hi-Fi audio. Just dont let him know where the volume controls are quite yet. :-)

Peter, it looks like you have done well with the space provided. A very nice room.

Please get some Windex on that TV. At least it will be clean for a few minutes.

Thanks for the compliments, all. Amazingly enough, I don't get to the couch very often. We have a laundry list of improvements planned for the home and we are starting with the easy fixes. I've been painting the spare bedroom the past few nights -- easier when the kids are asleep, as you can imagine. All that's left to do is the baseboard and window.

My last project was sectioning off an area in the closet under the stairs to house a litter box, and to provide the cats a safe hideaway from kids. I cut a cat door into the door and finished the edges with some half-round trim. The Cats took to their new hidey-hole almost immediately.

It's nice being able to modify your home without having to check in with anybody (other than the wife!).

I like it Peter, similar to when I had my Axioms upstairs in our living room area. Your TV looks just like mine with all the smudges on it.

Thanks for all of your nice replies...the camera work is getting better and the DVD/CD shelves are now in. Not too much longer the little missus will do her magic and the music/TV room *should* start to have that comfy, cozy feel only a woman can add...with a couple of nicely framed SRV, EC and B.B. King posters of course!

Thank you very much Peter and Randy. Peter the ceiling was a ton of fun...the original truss line was the left side of the vault in the picture from what was the 25' side of the screened room to the wall with the DVD/CD shelve (original exterior concrete wall of the back of the house). Whenever we first started I knew I didn't want to have a ceiling that was 7'6" on one side of the room that rose to 8'6" on the other so I decided to put the vault in with 2x4's and then decided that it looked too much like the inside of a single wide mobile home and then added the flat above the TV area, a few days and many beers later the side and french door flats was incorporated into the mix. Added a whole lot of work but turned out to be worth it in the end.

Where you see the glass blocks and shelf was a sliding glass door coming from the master bath into what was built with the house a garden area with a ground level spa. We actually took out the garden area a few years ago and added the screen room but left the in ground spa and added the glass blocks for light into the master bath...which now puts too much light into the music room so we're now having matching plantation shutters made to cover them.

Whenever this little project is completed I'm retiring my nail apron for good ... no mas, Amigo!

Hey Rick,

How do you find the brightness of the room for watching movies? I would have thought that most would keep their dedicated rooms as dark as possible (like Randy's area). I am planning a dark burgandy faux-finish but we'll see as it gets closer to the end. I am thinking of the textile fabric paint for the walls to help absorb reflections too.

(I too love the ceiling...wish I had more ceiling height...next house so I'll have to keep my apron handy)

Bruce so far we haven't had any issues with the light paint during movies...matter of fact I've never really gave it much thought until now. I'll certainly keep it in mind this evening.

After my beautiful bride of 25 years and I searched and looked on the internet for ideas regarding a *dedicated* room we collectively decided that we wanted a room for music, concert DVDs and watching movies without distracting too much from the rest of the house so this is where we ended up. Thanks for the compliments regarding the ceiling, it really looks better in person than what a camera can show....also I've taken all of the equipment out of the cabinet, painted the inside black, trimmed and gathered up and organized the cabling and have trimmed up the CD/DVD shelf since the last picture was taken. Looks a lot better now.

Bruce, good luck with your own room ... man it's a blast seeing the outcome of your labors!

Rick - that is a seriously good looking space. Once mama does her stuff, the cozy factor will round it off nicely.

I'm with you on hanging up the nail apron. I've spent almost all of my waking hours over the last 3 months finishing my basement (with help from a guy with excellent skills and all the tools).

Happily, the carpeting comes next Monday and then it's a matter of a few little things to finish and wait for the new furniture. Mondat afternnon will see the speakers come out of their boxes and hookups will begin!

I'm a little long in the tooth to want to tackle something this size this again. Next time I give the wife the Homeowner's Repair and Construction kit - the YellowPages and the checkbook.

Enjoy the room!
