Is there anyone out there that listens to ROCK. So many posts about what music people audition speakers on or post about what they listen to is jazz, which is good, or vocals or classical. I'm wodering if anyone listens to Rush, Primus, Metallica or Floyd or any other hard rock or alternative music and how well the axiom speakers handle these particular groups.

Randolph welcome, I think you will find alot of rock fans on this board, especially Floyd fans. The Axioms handle all types of music great.

Speaking of Floyd, We have had to wait over ten years for a new true Roger Waters CD. Amused to death was an all time top ten in my list. Think he can out do that one when he comes out with something new? Anyone listen to the new David Gilmore cd?

I picked up the new Gilmore cd out of pure curiousity, and have found that I LOVE it!

Welcome, Rapmon! My favorite genre is electronica, but a band that I listen to a lot is Porcupine Tree, who's music is along the lines of hard rock/progressive rock. If you haven't heard of them, I suggest checking them out.

Anyway, I personally think the Axiom's sound fantastic with this type of music, but everyone's taste is different. Axiom's are very forward and detailed speakers and give the impression that the musicians are right there in the room. It might be harsh on the ears to some people, but I really enjoy the upfront sound. If you've heard Klipsch speakers, sometimes considered "rock" speakers, the Axiom's will sound more balanced in my opinion. Klipsch speakers always sound harsh to me. That's my $.02 anyway.

Right here, dude... not really a Floyd or Primus fan (they're good, but I don't own any), but I do listen to 'Tallica, Megadeth, Tool, Opeth, Rush, all those other groups BrenR makes fun of, you know, that sort of thing. And it sounds GREAT on Axioms. Better with a good sub, of course.

Rush, Metallica, and Floyd are in my collection. Since I am wife and childless for the next few days, I may get a chance to listen to some at proper levels, too.

You mean it's not 1:30 everywhere? It's funny when the wife turns down the music and you turn it off, that the silence sounds better and she doesn't understand. What does Sonic Fox know that most other women don't.

Being a fellow electronica fan, do you know of any way to cure my need for a new propellerheads fix? How can they tease us with decksanddrumsandrockandroll and then just leave us hanging? It's cruel and unusual punishment. I've listened to that album so many times, I'm amazed myself that I've not gotten sick of it.

Another question....Groove Armada. I've heard that at least three of their albums were released (on aparently a very small scale) as multi-channel SACD's. I've got Vertigo (TERRIFIC SACD), I've just this minute placed an order for a copy of Goodbye Country. Fingers crossed I actually get the SACD version, as I ordered it used from Amazon.com.uk. Has anyone ever come across a copy of Lovebox in SACD available?

Electronica is the perfect music for multi-channel mixes. I'm very surprised more of it is not released that way. There are so many creative ways they can use all those extra channels, and you don't have to listen to audio snobs saying that's "unnatural"...well, I guess many audio snobs have that opinion of electronica in general, regardless of whether is mixed in stereo or 5.1.

Only because I once thought "no life til leather, gonna kick some ass tonight... woohoo-yeah!" was cool at one point.

Political punk fan here... Anti-Flag, NOFX, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Forgotten Rebels, Descendents, etc, etc, etc here.

Yes, even though my avatar makes me look like a nu metal mook.

I’ve got a few hundred Rock/Alt Rock CD’s.

For the most part, they sound great on the 80’s. But……there are a few that do sound like crap. This isn’t necessarily the speakers fault, but probably the idiots making the recording.

I’ve got both the new Nickleback, and the new Shinedown CD’s. I enjoy both these groups immensely.

The Nickleback CD sounds awesome. Very clear with some kick ass LFE’s that only a good sub can produce. I ain’t kiddin, this CD friggin rocks……..

The Shinedown CD however…….just friggin sucks. Great band, great music……I love the music these guys put out. The CD is very disappointing though. Everything sounds as if a big ol’ plastic bag is over the speakers. I was about to sell my Wharf’s it sounded so bad. So for the hell of it, I listened to this CD on the 80’s, and sure as sh**, the CD sounded every bit as bad.

Other groups that don’t sound too hot are Breaking Benjamin. Great music, bad they sound sibilant. Reavis sounds the same, sibilant.

Audioslave sounds great.

It all just depends on the disk.

I've heard the Nickelback CD is really awesome, went to buy it the other day and our one and only great place to buy music and *Best Buy* didn't have it. Those chuckle heads never have any decent music.

Just a word of warning... Nickelback's "All The Right Reasons" - here in Canada at least - is a Copy-Controlled disc.

The album sounds great, engineering-wise. I won't comment on the "Creedelback of a Deadman" sound. Lisa likes it, she owns the disc. I go out to the garage a lot.

They did scoop a Dimebag Darryl solo for one of the songs on the disc (a tribute to him) in case any of his fans want to hear something posthumously by him.

Kc...you mentioned Tool. I see they have a new album coming out. I like what I have heard of them, but don't own any CD's. Any recommendations for a good one to start with?

I'll say it before anyone else does... a good Tool to start with? Maybe a 16 oz. claw hammer.

Zarak, Undertow is a great starting point, but all their albums are good.
