Whats up guys, havent posted here in a few months now. Just thought I would give you all an update and also a question.

I have had my Axiom system now for 5 months and I have nothing but good things to say about Axiom.

I was recently listening to some Martin Logan Vantage speakers. While they are very nice speakers, the difference in sound was not very much and definitly not worth the HUGE price difference. Axiom is doing a hell of a job!

Now my question. I am thinking about replacing my VP150 center with 1 more M60 to use as the center. If there is any weakness, I feel that the VP 150 has a bit of a time keeping up with the M60's in loud movie scenes. Am I able to just buy a single M60 or does Axiom only sell in pairs? Thanks

If you have the additional space yes, having the front three speakers match is ideal, I replaced the VP150 with an M80 when running the Axioms and was very pleased with the differance. Still using three M80s and a pair of the QS8s on the garage system and would not give up the 80 as a center.

What I will need to do is lay the M60 on its side to fit under my HDTV stand. I will just take the glass piece off the stand http://www.axiomaudio.com/images/new2.jpg and put the M60 under there with 2 rubber feet pointing the front of the M60 upwards. Will there be any problem with laying the M60 on its side? Thanks

I changed from the VP150 to two M3s as centers with great results.

It definitely felt like when I had a VP100 as a center. Since I have replaced it to VP150 I can't complain. VP150 is more sensitive than M60 and has a higher rated power. What would be an advantage of swapping them? Are you sure it's the speaker, not the receiver? Maybe, before plunging into that connect one of your m60 to the center channel and see if you like it?

I think you're going to get some valid concerns from Axiom and from users about putting it on its side. That arrangement will change the distribution pattern pretty significantly. You might be better off with a pair of M22's vertically next to the screen or something.

I currently run M50s as mains with an M3 as center.

I normaly run the M3 vertical and inverted and it works great.

I sometimes(during the Hoildays)run the M3 on it's side and it does a good job in my assemetrically arayed listening room.

I just make sure to place the tweeter side toward the listeners off to the side.

The M3 is a lot smaller and elaborate than an M60 but the concept is still the same.

Humm, this thread makes me pause about what I should do about a center. I had resigned to get the VP150, but two M3s sounds like an interesting option. Can they run together as duel centers with an 8ohm receiver (RX-V2500 yammy)?

Humm, just took a long look at the specs. Seems like the best choice would be a pair of M22s not M3s. With duel M3s you actually lose a woofer driver. However with duel M22s you gain a woofer driver and improve your frequency response low end over the VP150.

Only $60 more too.

Thoughts from someone who knows what they're talking about because clearly I don't.

If you run a pair of 8 ohm M3s in parallel you'll have an impedance of 4 ohms to the receiver...I'd make sure the Yammy can take a 4 ohm load. I have a VP100 and a 150 connected in parallel (3.43ohms) connected to an HK 635 receiver and have not experienced any problems.

*Seems* like I remember reading that the Yamaha receivers do not do too well with 4 ohm loads but I could be entirely out in left field with my notion.

Is M22 magnetically shielded? It could be imporant if placed close to the TV screen.

This my seem like a dumb question,but how do you run 2 speakers in parallel?Do you just put the 2+s together and the -s together and connect them to the receiver?

I use the M3s because of the difference in frequency response. I feel like like have gained more more bass for the center channel on SD analog channels in particular. I reset my centers to large for TV because the mains never kick-in.

They are not as well shielded as the VPs. I did see distortion with them next to the screen.

New, if you put the M60 on its side you're nullifying the greatest advantage that it would have. Vertical centers typically(have no experience with the VP150)have a wider and smoother horizontal dispersion than do horizontal centers using a MTM arrangement. This benefits both a listener sitting off the central axis and any listener because the reflected off-axis sound is smoother.

I think (just my ignorant opinion) that a M60 on its side would be a mistake. The tweeter is a fair distance away from the woofer and I believe it would just sound funky. I’d vote for a pair of M3’s or 22’s. I’ve tried both and prefer the 22’s. The 3’s do have more bass, but this is an easy fix with the X-over. The 22’s blend extremely well with my 80’s which are supposed to be real close to the 60’s.

By going with a pair of bookshelves, you have to option to run them vertically under the screen, horizontally with the tweeter together, or the woofers together.

All that being said, I am very, very happy with my 22’s horizontally with the tweeters together. Looks like a big assed VP. But you will have to angle them to get them to point at your ears. I did this by ripping some MDF and building a shelf that holds them at the right angle. Took a whole thirty minute to bang it out.

I've read my RX-V2500 yammy can do 4ohm if not pushed too hard. Considering it for the centers it might be okay, not sure.
