I am considering the EP350 sub, but curiously just noticed that this is a 200w sub. The EP500, 150, 125, etc.. All are the same wattage as their name implies (ie. 500W, 150W, etc..). Why is the EP350 not really the EP200?

Anyway, I'm also now considering the EP175, as its only 25W less, AND, interestingly, the HT Wizard tools here on Axiom's site, always seems to return this sub as a pick (if not the EP500 which is too big for my needs). The HT Wizard never (at least I can't get it to happen) seems to pick the EP350 -- any thoughts as to why?

Hi Jrain and welcome. My guess is that the wizard is choosing the EP175 based on your music choices and room size..(small to medium?)

Why is the EP350 not designated the EP200? Dunno! What's in a name anyway? If other Axiom owners don't know, I'm sure the Axiom staff would gladly enlighten you, if you're curious enuf!

Besides the 25 watt amp differential, the EP350 has a larger cabinet and driver (12" as opposed to 10"). It will go a bit deeper than the EP175.

The 175 is an awsome sub, I had one for a few weeks before I upgraded to my 500. My room was too small and the 175 kept bottoming out. The 500 is a monster sub. I have 1 and usually have to turn it down. At the time I was considering buying 2 175's. The reason for the 500 purchase was the DSP chip not available on the 175.

You will love the 175, i am sure. It shook my couch in my basment and the rest of the house. BTW, it was a really hard sale to my wife to upgrade to the 500 because of how great the 175 was. I still don't think she understands the reasoning for the upgrade.

You know when you have something you really like, and your going to upgrade for something better. Like a car or house. Even though you know the upgrade is a better solution, you don't want to loose the original. Thats how I felt about the 175.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the feedback.
Spoiler, yes, I was choosing Med Sized for the Room, BUT the Wizard usually returns 2 or 3 configurations as possible options, and what I'd get back are setups with the EP500, EP600 and EP175 (tried a few times and chose different music and movie types), the EP350 seems to always be left out.

Of note, and to quote "The EP175 is "Joe's Pick" -- our Home theater Doctor's favourite subwoofer." I'm not sure who Joe is, but perhaps he designed the wizard?

Worfzara: Its good to hear this feedback. Although the room I'd be using this sub in is about 14x24x8, the HT-assigned area would fall in a 14x12 area of this room. I think it will suffice, and the size is appealing.

Has anyone started with the 175 and then moved to the 350, and/or compared these 2 subs?

If your budget allows for it go with the EP500 you will not be disappointed. I have not heard the 350 but I do know that others have upgraded from that to the 500
Good luck.

Even though your listening area is smaller than your room, you are actually filling the whole space with sound. The sub produces non-directional sound. You may find that the best position of the sub may be somewhere in the room other than your listening area.

My first sub is the EP500. My room and listening area are about the same size as yours.

As mentioned above, the EP350 goes deeper than the EP175. The 500 and 600 more so. Deeper is better for HT.

The best part of the whole deal is the 30 day trial. Order what you think will work for you. Upgrading is always an option.

In the picture of Joe amongst the surrounds, there is a small surround in the lower left of the photo. Anybody know what that model is/was?

This is just a guess, but it might be that the EP350 dates back to before everyone standardized on always measuring in RMS watts rather than the many alternatives -- in other words the EP350 might have been 350 watts at the time, just not 350 watts RMS. Again, just a guess.

That would be the QS2.

Found a pair at a local shop not too long ago. At a request sent them to another board memeber for their pc room. They are very small speakers.
