Anyone have a good spot to look for TV stands? I am tentatively planning on the new Sony 50" A2000 when it comes out next month, depending upon how it looks once it is actually released. I'll need a stand for it too though. I don't expect the VP150 to be able to sit on top of the TV, so the stand will need room for that, the receiver, 2 DVD players (one is really for SACD), a digital cable box, and maybe a VCR, but it might finally be time to dump that. I'll look at stores if I need to, but I prefer to look online. I would need not just unit dimensions, but dimensions of the shelves as well though, if I was going to buy one online without seeing it in a store.

As far as stores go, I'm sure AV stores have stands, but they are probably expensive to get from there. I don't know that regular furniture stores would have much. I'm not a DIY type of guy, so that isn't really an option. Any suggestions?

Ideally there should be a back to it so the wires have something to hide behind, although the ones I am seeing that would work best seem to be glass without dividers side to side on the shelf so things can fit however they fit instead of being limited to an area. The glass ones don't have back though, because well...they're glass.

I've been searching since I posted this. www.racksandstands.com has been the best selection with good detail I have found so far. The Bello AVS-522T, Sanus NFV49C, and TechCraft PTV48 might work. I'm open to other suggestions as well. I'd have to see the one designed by Sony to work with the TV in person. I'm not sure if the shelving would work with all of my equipment.

You may also want to try Stands and Mounts.

Nowhere near inexpensive, but it looks better than anything I've seen. http://www.diamondcase.com/
I have several b-mpc's from http://www.sorice.com/
I'm not using mine as a tv stand but they can be ganged together for that purpose. I would, however consider the weight of the tv. The sorice is a solid piece, but everything has limits and a 50 inch tv...

I've found about 5 different stands that might work, ranging from $295-$440. I am going to wait until the TV comes out to make sure it is the one I am getting before looking further. There is a chance I'll look at the 55" as well if I think I can squeeze it in. My current entertainment center is 48" and it is a little tight fitting the speakers on either side. Width is 46.5" on the 50" and 50.9" on the 55 inch Sony's coming out. If the stand is going to be 51" at the top anyway, why not have a 55" TV sitting on it. Both should be out in August, and early September is my target at this point, so I should be ok there. I just hope the new Sony's look good when they come out, or I need to do a little reassesment on what to purchase.

You may want to check out IKEA as well.

If there's a style that fits your needs, I consistantly find their products to be very good for the money....

One thing to keep in mind about Ikea is the weight limits on the units. I was looking at them because of the good price, but they wouldn't support the big behemoth TV I bought.

This is less of an issue with DLPs and LCDs. I went old skool and bought a CRT (a decision I regretted when three friends and I had to lug that bad boy up a flight of stairs).

You might want to go by Circut City or Best Buy and actually see what some of them look like, up and close. Sometimes the catalog pictures just don't do them justice, both good and bad.

Still searching....this is the best I have come up with:

TV Stand

I'm having a problem finding something in the 50" width range and 20" height range that will fit the VP150 (26.75x7.5x7.5) Receiver (17.25x16x7) and the other smaller items like 2 DVD players, VCR, and forthcoming digital cable box. HTPC might come at some point too, but that can take the VCR's spot if so.

Another problem is my wife doesn't like the more modern look that most of the stands have, and while she might end up being ok with the one in the link (not sure yet) she likes the wood stands better. Finding a stand that has two shelves with 7.5 inches of height (or at least one with 45" width to put the receiver and center next to each other) with the other requirements is difficult to say the least.

Anyone know a good place for custom made stands? I'd consider that as well, although I am guessing it is too expensive to be worth it unless it is a DIY. I certainly wouldn't consider myself handy though, and don't think I could put together a nice piece of furniture that would look good as a stand in the house. Assembly required when the stand shows up in the box is enough for me!
