Thanks Sean. I love this car and so does everyone on the fjcruiserforums.

I got tired of having my 1999 BMW 528iT in for costly repairs. Looking forward to having a reliable Japanese car for a bit. Pretty reasonable pricewise too, just under $30K for most of the options. A few things I was able to find online and install myself like a tow hitch. Great conversation piece, everyone at the office knows when I'm at work too.

I also drove a vw in college. More of a Cal Bug. '62, dropped, dechromed, 1600 single port carb. I LOVED that car and it was pretty easy to fix.

Hey Oldskool I also like the look of the FJ Cruisers, neighbor down the street just bought a yellow FJ exactly like yours ... I think it looks cool and tough at the same time.

The FJ Cruiser looks nice! I thought they would be at least 30K! What kind of mileage does it get? My wife is in need of a new car and that thing would be perfect for where we live. She is spoiled from the economy of her little Nissan and I am having a hard time convincing her to look at anything else. She really needs 4 wheel drive but she hates the fact that they suck down so much fuel!

I have an AT 4x4. It's the same V6 from the 4runner, suspension is borrowed from the LandCruiser Prado sold in other countries so there's a lot of aftermarket parts that will fit. The manual calls for 91 octane but you can run down to regular unleaded, Toyota posted a bulletin indicating so.

Gas mileage was a factor for me, though I did want a "green" 4x4. I was thinking of the Tahoe that could take the ethanol but the nearest pump is about 30 mi away. I couldn't stomacy paying over $35K for a Hybrid Highlander either. This has the best mileage for an SUV of this size. I've been tracking since I bought it and I'm averaging about 18 MPG. Some owners have seen up to 22 MPG, though that might be w/ the manual transmission.

It's very functional, even for my 17 mo old and 4 yr old. Seats are waterproof (cloth) and floors can be hosed. Comes w/ CD changer and AUX input for my iPod. Has the NXT headliner speaker and 8" sub, sound is fine, not stellar. Looking forward to trying rock crawling after I get a lift kit.

The mileage is the killer. I get that out of my Ram2500 diesel with 2000lbs in the back. I wish someone would make an AWD, 40mpg diesel mid size car! The VW's with the TDI, get great mileage but they don't offer the AWD with that engine. Doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe someday the auto makers will realize there is a market for it.

yeah, lot's of people want the FJ Diesel. Alas, not in the US, worse in California. Last I heard, Benz's attempt to get the new Bluetec Diesels approved in CA. 48 states are approved...

I'm with you there Ron, my 3/4 ton diesel Ford crew cab gets better fuel millage than most mid sized SUVs and totes considerably more ... I'm waiting for the day whenever Detroit can come out with a half ton diesel pickup for those of us who wants the reliability and fuel millage of the diesel engine but doesn't necessarily need a 3/4 truck.

I work in a huge farming area and several years ago the trend was to have a huge crew-cab long bed 4x4 diesel, everybody got tired of trying to maneuver these beast and a lot of the guys downsized to F-150s and Chevy 1500s but the rough, muddy and dusty conditions were horrific on the drive trains so now 9 out of 10 are back with the 3/4 diesels ... it's just hard to beat 'em.

I have 224,000 miles on mine and it runs as good as the day I bought it. Cummins makes a fine engine!
Ford has hired Rouche(sp?) engineering to make a liquid feed propane burning version of the 5.4L triton engine for the 2007 F150's. They should haave the first working prototype out next month. Since I have 1500 gallons of propane storage here and I get it for less than half of what diesel costs, I will certainly take a hard look at these when they come out. When I bought my diesel truck, I could fill it up for under $40! It's over three times that now! And to make it worse..... It would seem that every single thing I buy has gone right up along with the cost of fuel. Really cuts into the profit margin of running a business.

Ron my current '02 7.3 Powerstroke has 245k miles on it and other than routine maintenance along with the A/C compressor/dryer replacement I haven't had nary the first problem with the truck (knock on wood). I had a '96 Dodge with the 12 valve Cummins and really liked the engine but the tranny went south at 165K miles, and that's when I went with the Ford ... both are great trucks but Dodge has really stepped up the ante with the MegaCab. Although I've never been brand partial I'd probably go with another Ford.

I put 200+ miles a day on the truck and depending on the price of a gallon of diesel on any particular day I'll spend anywhere from 65 to 75+ bucks every other day to get back and forth to work...every now and again I fly my plane close to the house for maintenance, leave it overnight and get the use of a Ford Ranger but the idea of staring down the lug nuts of a semi in the other lane on I-95 really turns me off of the small stuff. That and I don't like my knees bouncing off of the steering wheel.

That's why I'm thinking a half ton diesel would be killer.
