Is it bad to put the rear speakers about a foot higher than the side surrounds? I drilled all the holes last night and fished some string through in prep for the cables arriving which I FINALLY ordered on Saturday...

My side surrounds are constrained to the top of the QS series to be at 6' high because of a soffit.

I will have a riser in the back, and according to my diagrams, the front row will be able to "see" the speakers, but the speakers in real life might be blocked by the massive la-z-boy recliners that I own which may be on the riser. I don't want the front row to suffer.

Questions:

1. Would it be a big deal for the front row not to be able to see the bottom woofer on the rear QS8s but be able to see the rest of the speaker?

2. Do you think I need to raise them up a foot to ensure 100% that the front row will be able to hear the rear speakers clearly. This would make the rear speakers a foot higher than the sides.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing bad about it -- in fact, it's a good idea. Especially since not all seating is at the same level.

Thanks for the reply.

I will do that for sure...now all I need to figure out is how to pull string through insulation through a 3/4" hole...should be fun...I had rented fishing tape/wire for the other job from Home Depot and took it back this morning...

Darnit, that would have been usefull because renting it cost around $10 I think...

I am going to attempt to fish without the tape. I already have a string back there, I am driling a hole 1 foot up, the string should be in line with the other hole, just need to pull it through..

just to add to Jason's earlier comments about the bargains from Princess Auto....if anyone is ever looking for audio/video cables, power bars, adapters, etc, you would be very wise to check PA first before ordering anywhere. I picked up a 6' optical cable the other day (actually was RCA brand too) for $9. Monster stuff always comes through their stores, usually for the price someone "should" be paying for their products. Lots of bargains to be had.

Of course there is always the problem of digging through the mounds of unsorted product....and then fighting your way past the farmers! 1000 cable ties for $2, i'd have to be an idiot to pass that one up....

And time was, they'd just have analog audio (RCA) cables... now they have component cables, DVI cables, networking, etc... they're in a wire bin beside, say, jumper cables, so you don't get that audio boutique feeling of something being treated like a precious artifact, but they're usually great build quality and good prices.

That is the great thing, you usually get "brand" name cables, like RCA, Monster, Phillips, Acoustic Research, etc so generally build quality is top notch. Plus you don't have to hear a salesperson spewing pro-"x" brand crap.

Cables... at Princess Auto ??

You're kidding, right ? If PA sells cables then the only thing I *can't* get there is fresh vegetables.
