I'm sure you are as excited as I am, I just ordered my system jan 2nd. 2xM60s, 1xVP150s, 1xEP500 and 2xQS8s.

I asked a similar question on the QS8s and axiom and this board say they are very forgiving. I will set mine about 2 feet about ear level but am forced to put them just infront of ear level rather than just behind. The alternative was about 7 feet behind. My room is 13 feet wide with a 13 foot left wall and a 30 foot right wall. I will have a sony Wega 60" rather than a screen, so based on furniture etc, the QS8s will be just in front of my ears (within a foot or less).

So from what I here these QS8s are very superior surrounds and the placement is not as crutial as other surrounds.

I will find out in about 6 weeks, when my basement is all finished and system set up.

>>[Deepak] Yeah, I will have to fiddle around with the setting and pick up a SPL meter from RadioShack. Anyone on the forum have a quick howto guide that they can point me to. I search for calibration, speaker calibration and spl but not much luck. I am a total newbie with audio/video stuff.>>

I suggest picking up the Avia Disk to assist you in calibrating your audio and video.

You can pick up the combo Avia Disk/SPL meter here for $80 USD.

Wow,

After reading some of those articles...man, I am kinda scared to get started into calibrating my theatre room. THe EQing is the thing that I am bothered by the most..

Hopefully it won't take too long...

Thanks Jack. Will print it out and read through and try it with the current deftech speaker system.

Question related to speaker cable: will 14gauge cable be ok or will I need 12gauge?

Depends on the how long the speaker cables have to be, and on the impedence of your speakers. Here is the ubiquitous wire table which will show you what gauge(s) to use.

That is great news! You are welcome.

It's good you are getting the wiring done beforehand. That way you take your time and aren't rushed. When those speakers arrive, you'll be ready to go.

Have fun
