Funny thing is, back when I was playing handbells, we did the Canon. I played the bass line and loved it. Guess it's just more fun when you're tossing around 8 10lb hunks of metal...

Gee, Ken, I've never known anyone who played the handbells. The comedian's rant is great. Anyone who likes music discovers Pachelbel's Canon at some point, then eventually tires of it.
Back in the early '80s (about the time that the Canon peaked in popularity), there was a cartoon in The New Yorker magazine showing a glum-looking prisoner sitting in his cell. A ceiling speaker had the sounds of Pachelbel's Canon issuing from it and the caption was something like "Torture by Pachelbel".

Speaking of torture by Pachelbel... Lisa used to have a relaxation CD with calming ocean sounds mixed with a 45 minute long version of Canon in D (the worst part being it wasn't even played by live musicians, but MIDI sequenced)... water noises and "Canon", together at last?!? I didn't know whether to pee or walk down the aisle. By night #2 I resorted to whiskey sours and a brick across the head instead.  Bren R.
