my recent experience with vp100 has been less than thrilling (see few posts below).

I'm now considering returning the vp100 and buying an ascend CMT-340 as center. this brings up an interesting point - I have read that timber matching and driver matching is very important for a seamless sound stage. true with audible difference or just more theory?

I would be interested to know if anyone has tried this combination. another option would be to upgrade to vp150.

It surprises whenever I read these posts about not being thrilled with the VP100 since I found mine to be better than good. I bet an ascend owner will be along shortly to answer this question. Have you tried the ascend acoustics forum?

It is important that the center match the left/right speakers. 9 times out of 10, most problems are a result of incorrect calibration or placement or room acoustics, versus speaker design.

if you have enough room, I would try a vertical single M22 before trying another speaker brand. This way your centre channel will match your mains.

If you were to use a different brand of speaker, it would most likely be an audible difference.

I decided to get with M3 centres for M22 mains (for reasons of comparison for my future studio) and asked Alan about the differences that I would hear. He stated that only in carefull A/B testing with certain types of music (not movies) would I be able to tell a difference between the M22 mains and the M3 centres because their mid range is essentially the same.

In short, if you stick with an Axiom speaker with their high end tweeters and woofers, you won't have a problem matching your M22s.
