Room is 23' x 19' x 8'. Planning on a 7.1 system - TV on the 23' wall - mains will be 14' apart - listening position only 11-12' back from mains with room behind the couch. I've read several comments here that the 80's like some distance to the ear. M60's are certainly big enough for the room, but I tend to "want a stereo so loud it will blow womens clothes off" - quote from "The Italian Job". Unless I hear some really negative feedback in another post, an Emotiva MMC/IPS system will power the whole thing.

Any comments greatly welcome.

Scott you room is certainly large enough for the M80's, and if you want loud, the M80's will go there. I'm about 10' back from my 80's and they sound great.

Only if you intend to listen in 2.0 mode will the M80's prove any different than the M60's. The M80's will be louder and a tad bit deeper in FR.

You indicated that it will be a 7.1 system, meaning a subwoofer will be present. Now you will probably be crossing over the mains around 70Hz +/- 10Hz. If that is the case, I say get the M60's and put the difference towards a sub that will "blow the clothes off"...

So if this is true the M22s with a sub should sound the same as te M60 with a sub, only the M60s will play louder. It the same basic thinking

I've had 60s and 80s in the same room at the same time. I went with the 80s which sounded better to me even at low volume. YMMV.

Thanks all. I also forgot to mention that I enjoy a preponderance of bass - M80's it is.

401, as a current owner of both the 60s and the 80s I believe you'll be quite happy with your choice ... don't get me wrong, the 60s are really a very great speaker but the 80s are even better, IMO.

I agree Rick, I owned the 60's for two years, they do have killer bass, the m80's are a little better in that category. I don't think most people could tell the difference. In the mid's/highs category the 80's really shine.
