 new m22's muted vocals?

I just got a pair of m22 that I am running with a HTR-5960.
They sound really clean BUT seem to be muted or dry in the vocals. I listen to a wide verity of music. Some acoustic stuff sounds really good but other things like tool or red hot chili peppers have a muted or dull voclas, not alive and not right infront of you.
So my question is:
Will they sound different after some time? or do I need to look at a different speaker?

Make sure you are not using some DSP settings that you shouldn't be using  For the record, I am a big fan of Dave Matthews Band, HUGE to say the least, but after playing the music on my M22s (his older albums like Before these crowded streets and Crash) they didn't sound half as good as in the car. Crappy thing about the M22s is that they represent what was recorded with acuracy. I have other albums that are just simply amazing and sound better than in the car. Its all the source my friend. If it is not working out for you, I would suggest trying out the M3s, they are more "forgiving" than the M22s.

My, welcome. No, the M22s won't change with time and you don't need to look at another speaker. One of the strong points of the M22s is their very clear mid-range which gives excellent reproduction of the vocal range, among other things. In fact, one of the few criticisms occasionally heard about them is that they're too "upfront". Unless your previous setup had an unnaturally elevated mid-range, which you'd become used to, it's difficult to analyse your report.

Another buyer learning the truth about the recording industry, way too many cd's poorly made and the M22's unforgivingly sending it to your ears.
Just in case, any possibility of crossed/ poor speaker connections?
As Hutzal said if most of your music is sounding poor then you may want to try the M3's. But I would bet the vocals still wouldn't sound right as the M22 is said to be brighter than the M3, which should make the vocals even more muted on the M3.

Double check your speaker cable to make sure that the speakers are in phase. When I hooked up my M50s last time, I hooked them up out of phase and they sounded remarkably bad. Worth a shot!

This may be very true. I am using very solid connections as well as a STF-2. The speakers are very clean they don’t sound bad at all. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds sound wonderful but other recordings sound....?? Kind of flat (mostly in the vocals in some recordings) ?? I plan on putting a few more hours in this weekend, maybe after listening to a few more CD's I will have a better idea of what a am hearing.
