Robb, with both DPLII and Neo:6 the center channel level can be adjusted(you could of course configure the system in the receiver as no center if that's more convenient). I haven't studied the 659 manual for the specific numbers, which I'll let you do, but the center width adjustment which I mentioned for DPLII can adjust the center all the way down so that the mains handle all the front information(Neo:6 has a somewhat similar center image adjustment).

Again, keep in mind that there's nothing artificial added by this processing; the majority of sound in the concert hall reaches the listeners(unless they're conducting the orchestra) and microphones from reflected ambience which comes from directions other than the front. Processing such as DPLII, Logic 7 and Neo:6 detects the phase differences in these delayed reflections, extracts them from the front speakers, and steers them to the surrounds where they belong. The listening experience is made a bit closer to the original.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

I was just experimenting with these settings for the sounds coming from my Wii console a couple of weeks ago. The Game setting can give you some interesting surround sounds. When in caves and such the echoes are very cool out of the surrounds.

John,

I have PLII Music setup, and man do I love it! sounds 10x better than 7 channel music for sure. I am so glad I found this thread on this, I had no idea my reciever could even do that. I have the centre channel so it does not output at all.

The PLII Game setting I didn't like so much (jakwash), when playing splinter cell on my xbox 1, there was too much sound coming from the centre channel, and there is nothing you can do to reduce the centre channel volume with PLII game, so I am using PLII Music with music and games, I turned the centre channel completely off, and I think it sounds amazing (with gaming I might turn on the centre channel 1/7 for PLII Music).

Thanks again John, this was exactly what I was looking for.

Me, I prefer DTS:Neo6 to DPLII.

I haven't tried Neo:6, I will give it a whirl, I do like DTS soundtracks better than DD, so mabey I'll like the Neo:6 better.

I agree with PeterChenoweth.

I watch all of my TV based on the signal sent by the station you are watching. My receiver will switch back and forth from Dolby Digital to DPLII based on what it is receiving.

DVD's are always Dolby Digital or DTS.

For music, I simply prefer two channel listening, so 2.1 for me.

I have the M80's and they perform excellent for 2.1 listening. I'm assuming the M60's you ordered should perform as well as the M80's.

As many have stated, it's all one's listening tastes. Some may like to be surrounded by the sound, some may not. Some receivers have different modes as well and may sound different than others. I have a Harman Kardon and I personally don't like the way the Logic 7 mode sounds.
