I am going tobe purchasing the vp-150.

My tv stand has a rack on the bottom supposedly designed for center channel placement, but it is small (I think only the center of a home-theater-in-a-box would fit in their. I can remove this little shelf, and then the center channel will be sitting about 11" from the ground. Maybe a little more if a prop it up, and of course I can angle it upwards some toward the sitting area. The tv is a rear projection lcd, so mounting it on the wall above the tv would put it far behind the tv (and rather high as the tv is 50")

Do you guys think it will be a problem having the center channel this low to the ground?

Nope...mine is not that low, but it is low. Turn it upside down, and the speakers will aim upwards slightly, so they will aim to an area more level with your head.

I think you will be OK so long as the center channel speaker isn't more than 2 feet away from the screen. In my experiments, I found that if you move a center farther away than about 2 feet (that's above or below, not behind), then a kind of disconnect occurs, where the dialog seems disembodied from the actors on the screen.

You can mitigate these effects somewhat by angling the center towards your listening area, but 2 feet is a good basic rule.

Putting the center behind the set, if it's at least level with the top of the screen or a bit above, doesn't usually produce a disconnect if you set the distance in your AV receiver properly. In some setups, it may actually improve the depth of the soundstage, especially for music playback.

Have you thought about 2 M2s wired in parallel? this would give you a speaker above and below the screen, for much cheaper than a VP150 and the centre channel dialog will sound like it is coming out of the centre of the TV. I currently use M3s above and below, and will shortly be switching to M2s.

Thanks for adding that, Hutzal. The dual center with the phantom image in the screen's center is a great alternative for setups where center-channel placement is tricky or less than ideal. And it works really well.

Me too!

I use an M3 vertical and inverted on top of my 65" RPCRT, but it's still a bit too high for proper localization. I would like to go with two M3s in parallel, but the M3 is way too deep to mount below the screen without sticking out too far into the room.

I could get a W3 to snuggle into an indentation of the cabinet under the screen, but I don't know if a vertical M3 would work well with a horizontal W3, or if the M3 and W3 would even play well together at all.

Both of my M3s are on their sides with one T left and one T right. An M3 and a W3 should play well together.
