My rrom is 20x15 but the side that is 15 opens to the kitchen and the kitchen is like 20x10 with the entry way to my house. The entire great room is 20x25. I was thinking of using M22 in the front and since one side of the room is windows and other kithcen putting m22's on stands in the corners in the back of the room. Does anyone use m22's for surrounds

Are you intending this to be HT setup primarily? If so you could put the QS series of speaker on stands as well. The QS's are designed for surround and disperse the sound much better.

There would be nothing wrong with M22's as surrounds but the QS's do a better job in this position for HT, IMO.

I use M22's for surrounds and think they're awesome in that capacity. I listen to about as much multi-channel music (SACD) as I watch movies, so I feel that I want to keep my rears as direct-firing speakers instead of the multi-polar QS series.

That said, I've not ever heard either the QS4 or QS8, so it's possible that ignorance is bliss.

The problem is that i would be placing the QS8's 10 ft behind the listening position and also they would both be on the back wall. Is this a problem when using the qs8's? I will be using this primarily for HT but i would also like to buy a couple of DVD/SACD's after i get everything setup.

If you have the time to experiment you might try using the 30 day audition option. Order both M22’s and QS8’s an keep the ones you like the most. This would also give you a chance to try them in a 6.1/7.1 setup with the QS8’s as surrounds and the M22’s as rears.

I don’t have the M22’s but I do have my QS8’s in the back corners of my room about 7 feet behind the center of the listening position. I can’t imagine using any other speakers back there now. No matter where I sit on my futon the rear and side soundstages never collapse to either speaker.

Normally, for 5.1 you want the Q's to be to the sides of the listening area. Slightly back/front of your ears is best. Rear speakers are normally not intended to be used for surrounds, but some people have no options.

If you can't place them on stands or wall/ceiling mount them, you may not have any other option.

I have 4 Qs8's, and they work great for music as well as HT, in my opinion. Direct radiating speakers (bookshelf) will not envelope you in the experience as well, but still should to fine.
