I'm a former CIA operative, making me Ex-Fed. Does that count?

I have a cousin who's a pilot for fed-ex, his wife is way hot. I guess that doesn't help much, does it.

I don't work for FedEx, but I can answer your questions.

1. Yes. Occasionally, packages will be subject to slight taps due to our routing system. These taps will not exceed 800G's, unless it's the holidays and all bets are off.

2. Any package shipped via Fedex will likely be routed through Baghdad. Pack accordingly.

3. We appologize that all of your packages will be opened with a dull spoon, inspected, and probably looted for parts. Homeland Security, dontcha know.

4. Yes, we know exactly where your package is. It's with the driver. However, we have no idea where the driver is. Try back later.

5. No, the Fedex drivers have not yet figured out what this fra-geel-ay means on the side. Must be a package from Italy. See #3

<sigh> Yeah, I don't have a lot of love for Fedex. Just my sorry attempt at humor. I tease, I tease.

Sorry, I'm no help at all. I'll go away now.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would respond on this board, maybe as a PM.

At least Fedex doesn't leave parcels on my doorstep all day when I'm not home.

I mean C'mon!! I do live in the country and it could sit there for days without being stolen but that doesn't mean I actually want to risk it or the rain. What if I was on a two week vacation???

See, no coffee yet + reading boards = rant. Oh well, at least it wasn't FedEx related so technically, I'm not feeding the flame.

Yeah, I'm with Murph. Of the big 3 (4?), I'd choose FedEx. Sure, they have problems, but they're a long sight better than DHL.

Well, yeah, actually I agree that DHL is worse. My M80's-By-DHL hold the record for the most damage to any package.

It's interesting, because one's local depot and drivers matter a great deal. This obviously varies from place to place. I will admit that just because it's good in one place doesn't mean it's good everywhere. But in my town, UPS is better and I'm not alone in thinking that.

Warning, rant ahead:

I certainly can't say that every package from Fedex is messed up, nor can I say that every UPS package is perfect. But I do know that I have more problems with delayed and damaged packages, rude employees, etc with FedEx than with UPS. I can always hear the 'thud' of packages on my front porch when delivered by FedEx. In one instance I was treated as basically a terrorist and/or drug smuggler when I showed up at the local FedEx office and simply questioned why my 'Next Day Air' package had taken over a week, and was then told that they just couldn't be bothered to go search the truck for it after I had made the 30 mile drive to their depot. This was after their corporate customer support told me that it wouldn't be a problem. I was irritated but remained calm, though every FedEx package I received for the next year was opened and rummaged through. Seriously. Anyway....

UPS has always treated me right. My UPS delivery guy is pleasant and actually sets packages down instead of dropping them. He also usually puts in the extra effort to leave packages that he suspects may be more expensive on my back deck instead of the front porch, which is a nice touch. If I miss a needed package, the local depot's loaders are there late in the evening are always pleasant and helpful to talk to, and quite willing to pull a package off a truck and hold it for pickup.

Anyway, rant over, and I'm hijacking 'Quack's thread...

For me, I've had much better luck with FedEx versus DHL or UPS through the years. Oh wait, it was a FedEx employee down in the TN hub that ran over my ep500 replacement amp a few years ago.

I'm sure a few of you remember the post/pics of that mess. The wood crate and amp inside looked like a 747 ran over it....and then the nut put everything in a cardboard box and shipped it on its way. Talk about great turn around.

Anyway, I did have one response, can't tell who it was as it is top secret. Thanks to all the hi-jackers.

Well maybe I don't like FedEx now. I was informed today by Klaus that my special Odyssey mono amps were on the way FedEx and would arrive Friday. The problem with FedEx is that they won't leave stuff on my porch like UPS and DHL.

We don't live in town, but live on a private road with an association of nice homes on 2 acre lots. I won't be home and will be at work that day. I've always been able to call DHL or UPS and change the destination to "HOLD" for customer pickup. There is a major FedEx distribution facility right on my way home, but when I called the 800 (Go F'ex) they said sorry it is ground and there is no way they can change it. I used to pick up my Axiom stuff there back when Axiom used FedEx, now they use DHL.

I can't believe in this day and age of technology, GPS, etc. that they can't notify the destination sorting facility before it gets loaded on the truck to change it to HOLD for customer pickup, what a joke.

Yeah, that's pretty lame. I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions of the Odyssey amps.

Well, I was told since it was shipped Ground/Home Delivery they have to make one attempt at my house for a signature. After that, I might be able to contact the terminal to arrange for other pickup, otherwise, he will make another attempt on Saturday.

If I can't get Friday off, I may put a note on the door saying I was sorry I could not be home, but if he could call me I could meet him somewhere or maybe arrange a later time on Friday.

Randy I believe you can go to the station at any time and sign a waiver to have them leave packages at your door, that's what I did and now anytime I receive packages via FedEx they are left at the house ... should be the same policy regardless of your location, I would imagine.

I've personally not had any problem with FedEx in the past.

I haven't had any problems with any of them, but I work in the storeroom at a hospital, and one of the former DHL drivers is the only one who concerned me. He would zoom in and park like a maniac, and his leaving was the same. His driving was bad enough, but then he would throw the boxes out the back of his track, and sometimes we would even see him slam them on the dock, like he was trying to break them. The driver that replaced him is much better, but yeah, that one guy left an impression on all of us.

Actually there was a forum fellow who worked for fedex, though he hasn't posted in some time. If he has email notification of PMs still turned on, he may acknowledge receiving it.
His profile is here.
