I plan on using a 12v trigger on the axiom ep500 since the amp plate gets pretty warm unless the room AC is on. (room temp when AC is off is around 28-30 deg celcius)

i noticed that there was no switch to select "auto sense" or "12v trigger"

if i use a 12v trigger:
1) will the sub really turn off when the 12v signal is interrupted? (vis a vis: "auto mute" from the audioholics review)
2) if it does turn off, I assume my amp plate will be less warm, right? (or will it be exactly the same as the auto-on mode)
3) how many mAh is required for the 12v trigger to work (since I will be using an AC to 12v DC adapter)?

how often do the axiom guys look at these forums?

Mike, contact Axiom directly for that info if a reply isn't in tomorrow. One thing that seems odd: are you saying that the amp plate gets very warm even if only in standby and not playing music? If so, that isn't normal operation(at least not on mine)and might indicate a problem, rather than something to be bypassed with an on/off trigger.

yup, it's warm even on standby (led light changes color when a signal is passed through)

Do you have one of the older "original" EP500s? I got one in December '06 and my light stays green at all times. The amp never feels warm.

As to your question re Axiom guys looking at the forums, the answer is "almost every day" as time permits. I'll relay your questions to my colleagues.

I have an early EP500 and the amp plate gets warm--but not "very warm"--whether it's in standby or in full operation.

alan, thanks. sometimes it's just very warm, sometimes it gets hot (no usage) that even the mdf gets warm.

My early model 600 does this as well but I have noticed that the green light is always on regardless whether the sub is in use or not. Seems like my 350 has an orange(ish?) standby light that glows whenever the sub is in the standby mode and turns green whenever the sub is in use.

The 12-volt trigger mutes the output to the woofer (or un-mutes it). It does not do a "hard AC off" that would occur if you switched the power-off switch on the back of the subwoofer.

What ambient temperature is the room where the subwoofer is?

The amp plate should not get "very warm" in Standby; warm, yes, but not so much as to heat up the MDF. I don't turn on my air conditioning until the temperature in my living room rises to 80 degrees F (or if the humidity is very high), when I get uncomfortable. Under those conditions, the amp plate is warm but never more than that.

You could have a fault in the amp, in which case you should email debbie@axiomaudio.com , our service manager, and describe the symptoms.

Yes, the circuitry and amplifier in the 350 is quite different from the amps and DSP control in the EP500, 600 and 400.
