This a followup to my original query about HDMI cables vs. conventional connections. The article, "What's the matter with HDMI?" in AUDIOHOLICS online A/V magazine, got me wondering which way to go. I simply want to purchase the best I can afford with having to replace anytime soon. It would be nice to not have to worry about price but unless I win the lottery that is not going to happen.

I don't think anyone knows for sure. HDMI might even get replaced down the road (DisplayPort is starting to happen, for example) but it seems like HDMI is going to be the standard for at least a couple of years.

Do you really have a choice today ? There's an argument for grabbing a player which will upscale to high res over component outputs to keep your options open, but I don't see any big alternatives to HDMI coming down the pipe soon enough to wait for unless you're willing to wait a couple of years.

Then again, I haven't read the article you referenced...
