First off, NO SPOILERS PLEEEEEEEEEASE!

Ahem.

So, anyone besides me going to go to the local bookstore tonight for some midnight madness? How I wish I had had a little forethought - Peter and I could have dressed up as Snape and Hagrid (yeah, but who's who?) and won the costume contest here in Virginia. Any others out there eager to read the book ASAP so as to avoid the inevitable spoilers? I'm in a low-level media blackout now that I don't want to escalate - but I will if I have to!

I pre-ordered mine via Amazon, so I'll get it via USPS Saturday.

Mine is preordered, but I got super saver shipping. Guess I just don't care enough.

Now, the last WoT book... whenever that comes out.

When it happens, perhaps I'll read the last three in one swell foop.

There were a couple bookstores I beleive in L.A. that inadvertently released the books for sale yesterday. I'm an avid reader but that's one series I've never gotten around to reading, I guess I'll have to check them out.

Well, the wife and I preordered via Amazon, AND we're going to the local bookstore event tonight. The initial plan was just to go see what it was like, but with both of us wanting to read it immediately, we might walk away with a copy tonight as well...

That's normal and acceptable behavior, right?

I'm in a low-level media blackout, too. Last time I had the big event at the end spoiled by a frickin' AP wire story - they noted that betting on a certain event had spiked drastically after a copy of the last book was leaked. Well, duh, AP, you just ruined the suprise! So you're never safe from spoilers, apparently.

Yeah, I remember that also. You'd think that a betting parlor wouldn't take bets on something that has already happened, so to speak. No wonder somebody in the town where the book was printed started placing a lot of bets on ... that thing that happened.

I'm number 1244 on the waiting list at my local library. However, they are getting (have already got?) 938 copies of the book. Books can only be checked out for 3 weeks, and many will be returned long before that. So, I figure that within 3 weeks I should be happily learning Harry's fate.

Not gonna wait in line. I'll definitely read it, but I'll be patient about it. My sister's husband is going to the store tonight to buy two copies--one for him and one for her. That way they don't have to fight.

And, Ken, I've kinda lost track of what's happening in the WoT series. Guess I'll have to reread the books. Again!

Every time I read the next WoT book it is like trying to catch up with what is going on. Things have gotten pretty detailed. I think I am giving up on it until and if the series is ever finished. Then I'll read it all over from the beginning. Robert Jordan has been sick though, so I hope he continues to do better and that there is an end someday: Jordan's blog

I own all of the WoT books, but I haven't even read the last two. It's been so long since I've read the others that I'd basically have to start from the beginning again. I don't know when I'll be ready to turn that many pages again.

Yeah Jack, but don't forget that over 60s don't have to pay late fines at the Cleveland Library, so some awfully slow reading may take place.

Well for $48.00 I just ordered all seven from Amazon. This will be my first time reading any of them, so I might as well start from the beginning,

They don't? How thoughtful. Unfortunately, I use my local branch of the Regional Cuyahoga County Public Library, not the Cleveland Library. Oh well. Fortunately, the CCPL has a liberal renewal policy for books already checked out and I can renew via the internet.

Michael, in hindsight, I wish I'd done what you're doing. At my age, I've pretty much forgotten most of what went on in the first six books. Reading them in sequence would be terrific. Hope you enjoy them.

I have the book. From Amazon. And I got the free super saver shipping! The postman said I was the first in my zip code to get it.

Suckers!

Ahem...

Now the question... do I read it now, reread the sixth book now and then read it, or do I finish the series I'm on, and then read it?

USPS came through for me. Amazon went through the trouble of making a special box just for the book. Says something about muggles not opening or delivering it before today.

My wife will be fighting over our one copy tonight, I'm sure. Maybe I should hide it now, or suggest I read it to her and lock myself in the bathroom.

The Wife had pre-ordered her copy some time ago and picked it up this morning....at Wal-Mart.

Then the real fun started.

She thought that we and the kids should really go to the theater and see the latest Harry Potter movie rather than waiting to get it on DVD.

Horrible experience.

Glad to be back in front of the ol' Mits 65 and lowly ol' M50s and M3s in a sucky listening room.

...literally beat the poop outta that Cinema.

Yeah Jack, that is a thoughtful policy of the library. I heard(although I certainly can't confirm it)that the reason is that the over 60s usually can't remember the point in the book where they left off, so they have to start all over again at the beginning and rarely are able to return it in time. Go Browns!

Well, I'm not quite that bad. However, often a character's name will come up and I find it necessary to skim over what I've already read to jog my memory as to who the heck the character is.

My wife took our middle boy, 10, and his cousin, 12, to the local library last night, at 11PM. The library was giving away 3 copies and checking out 20, all raffle style [no cost]. My boy got one of the free copies and the cousin got the first checked copy. Both were so excited they practically jumped out of their skin. Then the librarian read the first chapter, but was sure not to start 'til 12:01!

Free is good.

That's pretty cool. Maybe if there's a series this big when my son gets older, we'll do that.

Yeah, as long as it's not the main character, you're all right.

I read the first 50 or so pages this morning as my kids make a complete mess of the living room. It was worth it.

I don't want to see any spoilers. I'd rather not see it on here at all, but if there needs to be one it should be clearly marked so those that don't want to see can stay out, and it should not spill over to other threads. It will be a little while before I get to read it, and don't want to know anything about it ahead of time.

My wife got it last Saturday through Amazon then read it and finished it right then!
I've never read any of them before but I decided to start reading them last Friday, I should be done with them by the end of the week. I'm enjoying them so far.
