I'm just about to run my speaker wires, then painting is next. I am going to purchase a dark carpet (mixture of black and gray). I need some help and suggestions on a paint color, and whether or not I should paint the walls and ceiling the same color as I have seen in many home theater pictures. Ultimately it's a matter of preference, but to achieve as dark a room as possible I am siding on a slightly darker uniform color (ceiling and walls) in the room. In order to achieve a darker room for better viewing (light being the enemy of home theaters) does paint color even matter?

Thanks

paint colour matters alot, especially if using a projector.

If you are projecting an image, the front wall should be a very dark colour at the very least.

My whole room is very dark, my front wall is flat primary black, my ceiling is "lead" grey, and my walls are a dark blue/green colour.

Flat paint will reflect the least amount of light, however, it easily gets scuffed/marked up if you have kids and is not as easy to clean as semigloss, for example. With that said, I painted my front screen wall Flat Black. Most people always use flat paint on ceilings throughout their house as well.

My side walls and ceiling are a dark blue in flat as well. But you could probably get by with an eggshell or semi gloss on the side walls.

Ditto what the other guys have said. I've not seen flat paint in a HT in person, but almost went with it for mine.

I went with a semigloss dark brown (chocolate) paint on all walls and ceiling. There is little to no reflection during projector use; i.e., I have not been made to wonder whether I should have gone with the flat. Plus, when the lights are up, it looks snazzier, to me.

CV, since you asked in another thread, I am tempted to one day tell the saga of the construction of Navajome Theater (formerly Stately Swing Manor Imperial Armchair Theatre), but I'm thinking that if it hasn't happened yet in my 1.5 years on the boards, that ship may have sailed. And taken my digital camera with it, apparently.

Thanks for your help. I will hopefully have some pictures of my room to post tonight, with dimensions etc. Then maybe you guys can help me out with my surrounds speaker placement.

Keep in mind that the reds will most always turn to black whenever the lights are out and the room is darkened. We have a somewhat golden light eggshell paint on the sides and back wall along with a red on the front wall, we like it because the room isn't dungeon-like but really gets dark when it matters.

I've personally never been much into the total dark totally all of the time stuff, we'll give up a little to achieve a room that will blend with the rest of the home's environment

I don't think a ship sailing gets you out of it.
