I am going to replace my mains speakers in the next couple months and I am looking for speakers that are both very clear and pretty loud. Right now I have Cerwin Vega VS 150's (bought em 5 years ago when ALL I wanted was loud) which have a sensitivity of 102! However, the more I listen to my Grado sr80 headphones, the less I can stand my Cerwins.

I usually listen to music around 85 to 90 db, but I do rarely crank it up to around 98 db (not for very long). My Cerwins show absolutely no sign of strain at that volume (neither does my receiver for that matter) and I'm sure they could go much louder. I am hoping that the m60's will be able to reach the same db without strain as well.

My room is 18x23x8 and doesn't open up to any other room. My receiver is a Yamaha rxv-3000 which is in the line that is one step down from the flagship.

Thanks for your help

Cam, I don't think you have any worries as to whether the M60's will play loud. While they have a somewhat lower sensitivity rating than your CV's (93 db), be prepared to enjoy a very accurate and efficient speaker. You will be amazed at the difference in sound between your CV's and the 60's! If you want "really loud" and your budget permits, you may want to consider the M80's (provided your amp can handle 4 ohm loads).

Cheers.

Cam,

I just upgraded from the M22s to the M60s yesterday and while I haven't done all the critical listening I would like to do, I can tell you 2 things without a doubt:

1. They can play louder than I could ever stand without distortion.
2. They are keepers!

So the M60's are in Mark? Please post a comparison once you've had some more listening time.

Yes, they came yesterday in boxes too big to believe. I do need more listening time, but will certainly post a comparison. I can tell you one thing - they are staying!!
Would like to have an M22/170/M60 listening session after another week of "psycho-acoustic phenomenon" occurs (notice I did not say that word ).

Told you so Mark.

Cam...I've got the M60's in a room roughly the same size as yours, though mine has an opening on one side. I can EASILY listen to the M60's at 90-95db and they don't even hint at breaking a sweat. (Though I do!)

No worries...grab the M60's and you'll be in heaven.

That is great!! Not even a month and his first upgrade!!!

Too bad the CMT-340's still aren't there for the listening session.

Congrats Mark! What's next?

Curtis,

This is the rationalization from hell, BUT...

I prefer to think of it that I was trying out the M22s vs the M60s and decided to keep the M60s. This leaves the door open for my "first" upgrade in the future without significant other objections.

Mark

Cool, thanks guys. Looks like the m80's won't be necessary.

So, Mark, what's going to happen to the M22's? Are they going to be returned, or used as back surrounds???

It might be a couple of weeks for me before I can get back there for a listen, since I'm two weeks away from the wedding at this point. I'd certainly like to all get together again though to compare.

Yup. Buy it all, man, unless you guys are already living together. Then it's too late!

BTW, I do love my wife very much. She's just... picky.
