Folks,

I thought I completed the HT setup, but the itch has not subsided. I was wondering if it is worth adding a rear channel for a 6.1 system. Is it worth the effort and does it make any realistic difference? If it does, what is the suggested speaker?

Here's my setup.

Ravi, who are you kidding ... "should I upgrade ...?" You can only fight the compulsion for so long. The answer, of course you should!

Will it make a difference? Yes, especially when you put your ear up against the back surround speaker.

I don't remember the rest of your system, but whatever you're using for side surrounds, unless they're QSx's, you should take one of them and put it in the back surround position. Take the other, wrap it nicely, and put it in the closet. Buy a pair of QS8s for the side surround positions. You'll feel better, in some ways, weird, in others. You will hear a difference.

Go for it.. It NEVER hurts to have just a little more speaker here and there...
Ok, from the looks of the photo, your rear '6th' speaker would be in a corner ? Directly across from the corner the T/V is sitting in ? If so, a QS8 would be ideal.. Sending out all it's marvalous little sounds, bouncing off the two angled walls, what could be better ? You wouldn't even need a pair, one would do the trick..

LFE ! The rest is just details..

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, the 6th speaker would be in a corner directly across to the TV corner. I have heard opinions saying if you already have QS8s, it would help to get a speaker which would not be so diffuse in reproduction, like M2. Is that true?

My gear:

HK 525 receiver
Panasonic CP-75 DVD player
M22s, VP150, QS8s, Hsu VTF-2
Samsung HLN617W DLP TV

No, Diffuse in the back is fine too especially if you are only going with one speaker.

I have 4 QS8s and was at first disappointed at how little sound seemed to come out of the back speakers...... until I turned them off. I then really noticed that the little they do play does pull you in better.

They really do help surround you with sound and the few times something does happen directly behind you in the movie, It is great!

If it's in a corner, I'd go for a direct speaker. You won't have the space to spread the diffusion out a bit and a corner basically mimics the way sound eminates from a speaker. Were you mounting a single speaker on a flat wall, I'd go for another QS8.
