Well, I saw a TV ad this morning for Walmart where a wife was going to "make her husband happy" by buying him an HDDVD player for under $100 tomorrow....

Stop it, you guys. Don't disrail this thread like every other one.....

I'm still stopping in. I just need to find a local store that will confirm that they will have them (regardless of the price that they tell me over the phone today)....

Ditto. Going to try and find out which local store has these in stock so I can make the kill tomorrow morning.

I cannot possibly think of another way to make a husband happy...

I just called the closest Walmart to my house and they confirmed (after asking several times) that the price WILL be $98 tomorrow.

Sirquack, go to Altoona with me tomorrow and pick one up!

They said that they will have 50 available for sale at 8AM. The last time I went to get a special sale item at Walmart, I didn't expect the one in "hick-town" Altoona to sell out quickly, so I will go a little early.

Also, the Walmart.com web site has been down for a little while for "maintenance". It is back up and has the special sale items on the main page.

Don't forget, Best Buy will also have it for $99. The price on their web site dropped down to $99 even though it was marked as "sold out", which is what they normally do when they are about to open it up at the new price but don't want to mess with pre-orders...

OK...wondering again.......

What will I be gaining in going from the XBox add-on to the A2 if I'm using a receiver without HDMI (Denon 3805 with 5.1 analog in only).

Will I gain some better audio tracks or better picture quality or something?

Will an A2 upsample standard def better than my Oppo 981?

There's a part of me that says "wait till the higher end models drop in price" and another side of me that says "It's only 100 bucks"!

Help make my decision for me, but know right now that I WON'T be upgrading my M60s to M80s....so don't even try!!!

There lies the problem with me as well but my mind is pretty well made up and I believe I'll give it a shot ... what's to lose?

The A2 does a very good job of upconverting regular DVDs. Some people think it's better than the OPPO dvd players. If someday you buy a HDMI receiver than you can play the True DD soundtracks via HDMI. It is only $98 so it's not a big investment.

I will actualy be at the Altoona Walmart around 8:30-9 as I'm talking one of our vehicles in to get 2 new tires. Not sure I can get there by 8am, as we have to drop the kids off at daycare first in Norwalk.

This sounds like a good deal, maybe I can pay you back Nick. \:\)

Actually, we have to take two cars as we are going to leave one of my cars at Walmart, and take the other one to Ankeny to take my mom out for her birthday. Maybe I can leave earlier. What time are you going to be there Nick?

This will be just like the Wii, we won't get one. \:\( Is Walmart in Altoona 24hrs? Are you just going back to the electronics area to wait for 8am? \:\)
