From what I've heard, HD discs should still be a night and day difference even over good upconversion...

Why 1080i? I have always found 720P to be superior to 1080i. 540 lines drawn twice or 720 drawn continuosly. Maybe try 720P?

Taking another look at the 'Samurai' HD disc...the previews look so much better than does the actual film, quite a bit. Maybe I just need to get a decent HD-DVD disc and maybe the shadow effect with the Transformers disc turned me off.

I'm probably being way too critical.

My WM still had 18 A2s 15 minutes ago. I stopped by to get a couple of HD movies.

Rick, your problem is that you need to turn down your receiver to a quarter watt \:\) .

The verdict is out for me....somebody can have this POS.

Thought I'd give the 'Samurai' a good second look through and right in the middle of the movie the sound started breaking up and the picture started jumping around. I'm sure it's due to a firmware upgrade but FTS, I ain't spending money on crap that doesn't work out of the box.

Oh well, lesson learned.

No, my problem is that I jumped on this HD DVD crap bandwagon.

Unimpressed.

I don't know Andrew...whenever the sound and picture started breaking up I thought 'Hmmmm', maybe just a glitch. Whenever it broke up again after three attempts I was about ready to throw the thing out of the door.

For you in the know, would this be a firmware issue?

Maybe it isn't right and needs to be replaced, but thus far I am so unimpressed with the thing that it's already disconnected and in the closet.
