it seems that a bunch of audio guys agree on the same thing: two subwoofers are better than one. While one may pound, two will give better more quality bass because they will self cancel out the noise wave distortion. That is my understanding of the situation as such.
Does that mean that two EP500's will give me a better quality sound than a single big EP600 would?
anyone got pics of what a horizontal 600 looks like in a room? How's the WAF on those lol :)?

...wooooow...that thing is like 3 and a half feet long.......i wonder how much floorspace that would occupy in my theater area maybe if i put it infront of those center cabinets under the TV (they're empty anyhow..they just house power plugs and maybe an AMP down the road)

That would work. But you should move that ottoman so that you don't get smacked upside the head during LFEs .

In that room I would consider going with a 500 or 400, as they are easier to place. The 600 takes up lots of room in either a vertical or horizontal orientation. Yes, the footprint is the same in the vertical model, however, it is still very tall and takes away from the room decor options.

I think a 600 would be very imposing in that room. My vote is for two EP500s. Good luck fitting them in there, though.

Omar, If you are interested in multiple subs, then have a look at this document . Two subs are almost as good as four subs but four subs would be the ideal. Two identical subs would give you 3dB more on the SPL meter but realize that this incremental increase is actually 2x (1.26 raised to 3) the sound pressure level/energy as one subwoofer. The key benefits of more than one sub are more output, flatter response, and perhaps most importantly, getting these two benefits over your entire seating area rather than just in the primary seating position. Oh, you have plenty of room. You know what that means--two EP600s! I can't comment on the sound difference between the 500 and 600, but I've run multiple subs in both a two channel set-up and an HT set-up and loved the results.

I still say 500's work as great end tables. One firing forwards and the other backwards. Now that's an idea...

My space looks to be about the same size as yours and a single STF3 from Hsu, shook the place amazingly well and it wasn't calibrated hot either. 2 500s is more than enough LFE and will smooth out the nodes very well. The 500 and 600 are not that much different by the numbers. The 600 plays a little louder and deeper. I also recommend an upgrade for the exercise equipment as well. This is what I have behind my HT room and it doesn't take up that much more room.

thats a pretty sweet gym man! honestly, i wouldn't even mind just selling the gym i have now. i dont work out all that much and the stuff i do can be done with freeweights anyhow.
I wonder what a gym the size of mine would be worth these days.. we've had it since the early 90's

Out go the weights and in comes a pool table, or a full home theater renovation It sure is easy to spend other people's money I know if I hadn't bought the weight set and have little kids requiring me stay home more often than not,(as when they are sick the babysitting services at the gyms won't take them) I would have a pool table there.

Yes. The only advantage of the 600 would be the slightly larger amp and maybe 3hz more extension. Everything would be the same except that the dual 500s would have more output and can be separated to smooth room nodes. Dual 500s wins over a single 600 every time.

Jason, I've been looking to buy a home gym and looking at alternatives. Which one do you have? Is that a Smith Machine?

No Smith, I don't like 'em. It is a Keys Fitness Power Cage. The safety bars are very easy to slide up and down which makes a smith machine not required. I find the Smith machines just make you move through a range of motion that isn't your natural movement. There are a couple of full floating(top and botom pivots slide forward or backward) smith machines out there, but to me that makes them no different than a power cage. The safety bars have to be in place to use them in full floating mode and that isn't any different than a power cage. If you are really interested in something like this and can afford a higher priced unit there are some true powerlifting cages that are really nice. Link The Keys product is very well built and was half as much and it was just short enough to fit into my basement but tall enough I don't have to sit on the floor to do chins PowerTec makes a Squat Stand that has a chin bar across the top and a lat tower attachment but I found the safety bars were to short and I really had to concentrate on my positioning otherwise I could miss them.

Khan, Two 500s are the way to go in a room like that. All your friends and loved ones will be envious .

In a room like that, one 500 will make the room shake, 2 will just make it fall apart from both sides at the same time.

For the price of two 500s I would take a look at the ED A7-900.

That looks like a monster sub with all the advantages and disadvantages. I haven't heard one yet but with 2 18" drivers, a 1300w amp outputting 129db I'm sure it would shake the house with deep bass. But even in my WAF friendly home a 435lb sub 49"x26"x26.5" would raise eyebrows. Tough to say whether or not it would sound better than 2 DSP controlled 500s.

I also recommend an upgrade for the exercise equipment as well. This is what I have behind my HT room and it doesn't take up that much more room. /* snip: pictures of a very nice home gym */ That gym seems to have a very high level of CHQ. What's CHQ you ask? Coat Hanging Quotient! Almost every home gym that I know of will (eventually) just have coats hanging on it!

I am sure that sub would pound out the bass but, the more I look at it, the more I am concerned that it wouldn't blend in. Both acoustically and physically .
