The last couple of days we haven't been much warmer. It's been the wind that's made it real bad here.

The cold is almost unbearable! It's like 60 degrees F right now. I might have to put a sweatshirt on before going to work.

OK! No more threads dealing with the winter. Every time one comes up, some sadistic yahoo from Florida or California, or Arizona shows up and gets his jollies, which just makes our suffering worse. So, mums the word.

OK, I have no idea, really. I'm actually in Oakland/work in Emeryville, so it's bound to be a bit different over here. Probably in the mid to high 40s.

Jack, if it makes you feel better it rained all day today. I made my smug comment about the temperature without peeking outside first. It poured and poured. On a good note, my car finally got cleaned.

The good news is that all the snow in my driveway melted yesterday.

The bad news is that all the water in my driveway froze today.

The dogs are starting to seriously think about peeing from the front step and trying to reach the yard.

Yes our lovely Winterpeg was the coldest city in Canada a few mornings ago.
After a week of -20C, you just get used to it. I went from wearing the fur lined mukluks to running shoes again.

-20 C? What is that, about 20 F?? That ain’t cold you wussies. \:\)

It’s short and tee shirt weather here yet. 5 F this morning on the way to the gym in my cut off sweats and running jacket. Knocking the frost off the windshield while waiting for the but warmer to heat up is a ritual. When it starts getting cold out I use the remote start, but that's - 20F or less.

I love the sunrises when it’s clear out……..

Well, the good news is that the rooftop damper is now "unfroze" after lighting several small fires in the chimney (smoking up the house in the process) and I have a roaring fire going in the masonry heater.

The bad news is that the tarp covering my snowblower is frozen solidly into the ice.

Then again, I have good music, good speakers, good books, a pile of unread magazines, the aforementioned roaring fire, and a couple of bottles of Chimay... so maybe it's good news after all.

Ha ha, I agree. This coming from a Southern Californian! It's 42 degrees outside right now. . . I want to sit in my morning coffee. I know, I know--for the rest of you that's nothing, but it's cold to me.

On a related note, I'm trying to figure out a way to install the "clapper" in my shower. That way the hot water can get started while I'm still toasty in bed.

The dogs ate the peanut butter and peed on the tarp. Close enough.

-40 is one of the few things we can all agree on (-40F = -40C) and you're getting mighty close.

bridgman, I'm guessing you don't have to leave the house very often?

2 inches of rain and about 6 hours of very dim daylight today in the Pugetopolis.

I just spent 6hrs out in -18 C/0 F yesterday, and not with 4 layers of clothing either. I wasn't expecting outdoor work when I went to my parents. We were putting up temporary skirting on the addition to try to help keep the water lines from freezing, where's that chinook when you need it?

Well, not particularly cold here, but we are doing the typical Island thing: wading through knee deep snow all weekend, pouring rain washing away the snow now (straight into our basements, of course).

>>bridgman, I'm guessing you don't have to leave the house very often?

Well, except for work. Between that and driving and a bit of sleep, there's not much time left ;(

Not really cold at all, but my power was knocked out for about 28 hours from our first snow of the season. Still about 4 thousand people without power. We didn't even get a lot of snow really but the temp floated just under zero degrees celcius so the snow was very wet & heavy and freezing onto all the power lines. Poles broken and lines down all over the place. One small town had 72 poles down in it's general vicinity alone.

Nastiest snow I've seen since the last major blizzard they affectionately named "White Huan" after the hurricane of the same year.

Been a little cold here lately, just today whenever I was outside getting the boat ready for some offshore fishing tomorrow morning I noticed my bare feet were a little cold from running the water hose.

May need to take a long sleeve shirt with me tomorrow.

Still 2000 plus without power here today. Local radio stations, K-Rock and Ocean 100 teamed up to have a hot pizza party at a local community center for one of the worst hit town.

A nice gesture, worth repeating, I thought!!

Sorry to here about the folks having such difficulties. I know the feeling; we were hit by a powerful thunderstorm this past summer and were with out power for 3.5 days.

Sorry to hear both of you have had or are having such bad weather this year. Even with all my griping I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, as these cold snaps are about as bad as it gets here\:\).

Being without power really makes you feel vulnerable to the elements. Last year, we had an ice storm here in St. Louis and nearly a million housholds were without power for varying time periods... we were out for eight days. Home Depot sold a lot of gasoline generators that week!
