So I finally have something with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, and 7.1, no less. I don't have rear surrounds yet, but maybe this will fast-track that plan. \:\) I won't watch the movie tonight, but tomorrow. I put the disc in just to see the DTS-HD Master Audio light come on. Just in the 2 minutes I watched at low volume, it seems like it will be a fun movie on my system.

Who else picked it up?

Okay, so I just watched it. It was a pretty cool story. Some harsh stuff in there!

Some of the gunfire and explosions were very nice, and of course some of the sound effects pertaining to the fantasy aspect of the film were cool, too.

Is this the only discrete 7.1 disc so far, or were there others? Like I said, I'm only running 5.1 right now. I doubt I'll even be able to tell the difference between 5.1 material matrixed to 7.1 and discrete 7.1, except perhaps if I'm really concentrating on material that's supposed to demo the 7.1 configuration, but I'd still be interested in hearing from people who have a full 7.1 setup with a movie like this.

Fantastic movie. I don't have the HD DVD yet but I had mentioned in this thread what an interesting film this was.

Pan's

On another note I picked up the Director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven on Blu-Ray that is also DTS-HD. The director's cut of this film is so much better than the theatrical release; it's like watching a completely different movie.

Oh, yeah? Kingdom of Heaven is one of the Buy One Get One Free Blu-ray discs on Amazon.com right now. Maybe I'll find something else to go with it and try it out.

I just watched The Kingdom on HD DVD. I was surprised it was only Dolby Digital Plus, now that Dolby TrueHD soundtracks are a lot more common. It sounded very nice, anyway, but you'd just think a release like this would have lossless.

I liked the movie. I've let myself buy numerous movies I wouldn't normally purchase because of the Buy One Get One sales, but this one I paid more for, and it's nice when that works out and I actually like the movie. \:\)

I did get Serenity since it was part of the promotion. I wasn't a fan of Firefly, but there were a few parts of the show that were all right. However, when people would say they loved the show for the characters, or for the fact that it was the wild west in space, it really made me wonder. Star Wars always had enough western elements to it to soak up the credit for that idea. Firefly was simply more blatant about it. The characters of Firefly never seemed to develop three dimensions for me. Still, I thought I'd give the movie a try, and while it definitely seemed like a TV show trying to be a movie, there were some entertaining moments, and they definitely utilized the LFE. I enjoyed it enough, and if you actually liked the TV show, I'm sure it's even better. Ha ha.

I put pans labyrinth my netflix queue but it says very long wait on hd dvd.

I have 13 movies in my queue and all but 5 have a wait ranging from 'short' to 'very long'. 2 of the available now's are SD DVD's. so I guess out of 11 HD DVD's in my queue only 3 are available now

I am starting to wonder how many hd dvd's netflix really has.

I haven't watched the movie on HD-DVD yet, but both my wife and I really did enjoy this movie on the SD-DVD.

Which brings another question, what in the heck do we do with the SD-DVDs in our collection as they get replaced by the HD-DVDs. So far we haven't bought an HD movie we already had in SD but it's inevitable that the time will come.

I checked with the possibility of selling them to places that buy and sell used CDs, DVDs, games, etc, but you only get about $1 max per movie. CV gave a bunch of stuff away here, and I know that others have sold DVD "bundles" on eBay. You don't get much, but it is at least a little more than $1 (like, maybe $2)... I have so many SD movies, many that I opened but haven't even watched yet, sitting around. I may be looking for new homes for my collection too.
