With the Canuk buck price adjustment on the horizion, it's got me wondering... Should i use the trade up programme to trade my M3's for a pair of Qs8's .. With My M3's being less than a year old I'm getting real good value from the trade up deal.. I am not sure if I will hear much improvement.. I knew this would be the place to find out.. \:\) Thought's????

Hi avdude,

If you listen in the sweet spot using your M3s as surrounds and substitute QS8s, you won't hear a dramatic difference, however, as soon you move to any other seat, even shifting your seat on a couch, you'll get a much more enveloping surround field that's highly convincing anywhere in the room.

I also find that with really good stereo (decoded in PLIIx, Logic7 or dts Neo:6) or multichannel classical recordings the QS8s deliver a superior sense of "hall sound" than direct-radiating surrounds.

I've been wondering something similar reference my rear surrounds. They are currently a pair of NHT SuperOne's (direct radiating), and I have been thinking about upgrading with either M3's or QS8's. I really enjoy listening to DVD-Audio/SACD discs using my rear surrounds instead of my side surrounds which are QS8's. Because of where they are placed in the room it is more appropriate to use the rears for DVD-Audio/SACD.

Anyway, I don't mean to take over this thread, but thought that the situation was similar enough to bring it up. Thanks.

Thanks Alan.. MY M3's are currently currently beside the couch aprox 5 feet directly left and right.. they are towed in so they probalby meet somewhere around 2-3 feet infront of the seating position.. I only have a few sacd and dvd audio discs ... Most of my stero listening is done with My M60's and sub ... I have never really gave much thought to the sound during sacd listening because it is just so darn good.. The M3's do a great job in movies and gaming but like most I wondered if there is something better to be had with the Qs8's. While in my normal seating position I tend to hear the rears individually( during moveis /gaming) instead of them blending with the soundstage... I supose that was my basis for wondering if I would see any dramatic improvment with the Q's. I understand left and right sounds should be heard comming from the appropriate speaker but when the sound is mixed for all speakers I can still hear each speaker independently(rears)... The fronts and centre produce a excelent sound stage so much so that I have a hard time telling if all the speakers are working without getting up to go listen to the front left or right.. The Q's would be mounted on the wall direcly behind the couch in aprox the same position and about 4 feet higher than the M3's....So I supose the only way to really tell is to order some Qs8"s and give them a whirl... I best email Amie and see if I order some 8's if I like them I can do the trade up when I decide... lol...

Korkster....Thanks for the insight also.... I was hopeing people who had experience with the 8's would jump in here... Any and all thoughts on the subject are appreciated..

Avdude..

avdude, I have QS8s now but have used direct radiating speaker as surrounds in the past. To me the biggest difference is with the Qs is that sound seems to be more around you than coming from a specific spot.

A few months ago, I had both M3 and QS8 in my appartment. I did some testing (3 separate posts in the following thread: http://www.axiomaudio.com/boards/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=13006&Number=179790#Post179790)

Thanks for the input guys... I supose my quest is to find out if the 8's will give me a smoother rear sound stage and blend more seemlessly with the rest of the system.. If that makes any sence.... lol... It sounds like the 8's will do just that opossed to the M3's... My only concern is that my couch is up against the wall the 8's will be mounted on ....

I have one of my QS's mounted on the same wall as my favorite spot and it still works great.
