 Quote:

This website was established to provide information about the Settlement of a class action lawsuit involving Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas First Edition.

A proposed settlement of a class action lawsuit will provide a replacement disc and/or cash to consumers who purchased a valid copy of the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas video game.

What is this lawsuit about?

Plaintiffs claim that copies of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas First Edition manufactured before July 20, 2005 contained parts that could be modified and combined to display scenes of a sexual nature that have come to be referred to as the “Hot Coffee” content. According to Plaintiffs, the game should have been rated as “AO” (Adults Only) because of the Hot Coffee content. Plaintiffs claim that, by including the Hot Coffee content on the discs and marketing the game under an “M” (Mature) rating, Defendants violated consumer fraud statutes and misled consumers as to the game disc’s content.

Defendants do not dispute that the parts that were modified and combined to display the Hot Coffee content were present in the code of the game discs. However, Defendants vigorously deny each and every allegation of improper conduct, and they deny all liability.

The notice and other settlement documents provide information about the lawsuit, the settlement, your legal rights, what benefits are available, who is eligible for them, and how to get them. To download a notice package, please click here.

If you are eligible, the following is what you may obtain under the settlement:

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas First Edition Disc Replacement Disc
Detailed Store Receipt Cash payment up to $35.00
General Credit Card Statement or Check Cash payment up to $17.50
Disc/Purchase Details Cash payment up to $10.00
No Disc/Purchase Details Cash payment up to $5.00

Note that the different relief requires different levels of proof. All cash benefits may be pro-rated to a lesser amount, depending on the total number of people who claim benefits. Details are set out fully in the notice package. Click here for the package.

You may obtain further information about this Settlement by clicking on the links at left.

Certain documents are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If your computer is not already configured with the Acrobat software to view and print these documents, you may get Acrobat for free by clicking the logo below.

I looked through the part of the PDF that says "how will the counsel be paid"

Apparently the total amount of the class action suit is for $1,000,000, and $955,000 is in attorney fees!

Gotta love america \:\(

People have nothing better to do then moan and complain. If the deal about the game is parents giving it to their kids, First of all its a mature video game that if you are complaining about some video game porno scene then you need to look at yourself as a parent to begin with. Secondly, Its something you have to actually do to see, like a cheat. So there is the desire to mod it. Such as the desire to go to google and type in any number of words to bring up things way more explicit.

I will never understand modern society.

Gotta point out (although I'm not a fan of frivolous lawsuits) that the lawyer actually did work on this case, and therefore got paid. As opposed to the whiny gamer-hating obsessive plaintiffs, who did jack all and got money for it.

Given that the lawyer did such a bad job that they only got $1 mil, it's hard to say why the firm got such a large percentage, though.

Ditto, snakeyes.

On a related note, I saw in the headlines today that some ABC stations have just been slapped with a huge fine by the FCC because they showed a woman's buttocks in a 2004 NYPD Blue episode.

Never mind that we can see hundreds, thousands of murders and grisly evidence, and hear about all sorts or depraved crimes, etc, year after year. God forbid we should show a butt or a boob on TV. That'd be bad.

Yes, but it could've been Dennis Franz's butt.

That smilie reminds me of how I feel when this weight loss commercial comes on and it shows all 400lbs of fat cells stuffed into a bathing suit getting into a pool. Makes me shudder every time.

That parts the US. I am online from Germany at the moment and put on the TV here after 10pm or so and you'll see boobs and more on regular TV. We are sensitve to nudity being on, but will include lots of violence. At least parts of Europe are the other way around. Nudity=good, violence=bad.

Hmmm...that doesn't sound so bad, does it? ;\)

No, I think that's getting your priorities straight.
