When was the last time Axiom actually took a higher end Yamaha model (like the RX-V2700) and tested it with their 4 0hm M80s? I think that enough time has passed (not even sure when the last time they tested a Yamaha receiver) for Axiom to revisit the Yamaha brand.

Even Audioholics gave the RX-V659 product of the year for 2006 and they stated it had no problems running 4 ohm loads. I run dual M2 centers (for 4ohm) and have no problems running the 659 to VERY loud levels. Not sure why I get all worked up about this, perhaps its because I own a Yamaha receiver, and every time someone mentions a Yamaha in the "question of the day" Alan continually advises not to get Yamaha receivers.

I would be interested to see how the current lineup of Yamaha's pair up with the M80s. I'd like to point out that mdrew recently had the RX-V661 and drove his M80s to >100dbs with no clipping. The 661 is far from the top of the line Yamaha.

Yamaha's are too damn bright anyway.....

Wait, I though the Yammy's were Laid Back or Warm sounding, and Denon's are mechanical sounding and make Axiom's sound harsh or bright? lol

No, the Yammies are definitely bright. H/Ks are bright and laid back.

Robb, there's a noticeable tendency for receiver/amplifier manufacturers to be unnecessarily cautious in speaker impedance suggestions and speaker manufacturers likewise to be unnecessarily cautious in receiver/amplifier suggestions. Nobody likes their product to be blamed if a problem develops. All sources of reliable tests should be taken into account, and when this is done it can be concluded that the units from manufacturers such as Denon, HK, Onkyo, Pioneer and Yamaha are all excellent for use in the vast majority of home setups.

Hello everyone, it has been awhile since I posted. However, after trying to catch up on all the posts this one was very interesting to me. I own the yammie rx 2700 denon 3930ci bluejean 10awg cabling and epic 80-500. i listen to various music flavors: classical organ, acapella choral, jam bands, house, and other music. all components together produce a sound that is simply wonderful in my opinion. when looking at receivers i was deciding between the yamaha and the denon 3806...i ended up choosing the yamaha for the network capability...

i ended up getting the squeezebox due to repeated nonsense with getting the network thing to work now i have no troubles!!!! in terms of calibration i used avia disc and calibrated to 80db. not all music and movies are mixed the same, thus, my volume level for both varies between -5 and -15. i watch tv at about -15 - -20, movies usually around -13 and music around -10 - 13. i have never had any problems c clipping, popping, or other extraneous problems. i didn't quite catch the candor of the "brightness" "mechanical" or "laid back" mentioned by the guru's of the axiom forum but i assume they are being comical?

anyway, i sing in a semi-pro choir and a vocal jazz group which most of our stuff is acapella. thus, i would hope my ear is somewhat good enough to tell subtle differences and i have had no complaints at all about my axiom speakers. the yamaha has no problem pushing the 4ohm load and i have never thirsted for more out of my system. although, i along with hutzal do place a vote for axiom to test out the higher end yamaha's...preferably the yamaha 2700!!!!
