I am fed-up with getting junk e-mail!! I use Netscape 7.02 for my browser/e-mail program on an iMac with OS 9.0.4. Any advice/recommendations as to possible add-on e-mail filters/ blockers or anything else I can do to eliminate this junk? I know the newest release of Netscape 7.1 has a junk e-mail filter, but you apparently need OS 10 to run 7.1.

Cheers.

best thing you can do is get a "junk" email address. Go make a hotmail acct, and use that address to sign up for things on the internet (free stuff, forums, web sites, etc) and have a separate email address that you just use for friends/family. I have had the same 2 email addresses for just about 2 yrs now. My "junk" acct, gets about 50 msgs a day, my "personal" acct has never seen one piece of spam.

Sound like a plan to me, twop, and would work for any future sites visited. However, I would still like to be able to block/filter the spam I'm getting at my current address if I can. No matter how many times I "unsubscribe", I keep getting the same junk. The only other thing I can think of, would be to change my current e-mail account name with my internet provider. Thanks.

Cheers.

Honestly, at the point you're at, thats about all I have ever seen work. I have been told (may be an urban legend) that *most* of those unsubscribe links are nothing more than a way for the companies to verify you have a valid email address. Now this may not be the case for places like yahoo and other legitimate businesses, but for the shady unsolicited emails...I would say its a good chance.

I believe that Microsoft Outlook Express, freeware for Mac OS 9, has a better junk-mail filter. Also, I suggest you update the OS to the 9.2.2 by all means -- as long as you have a fast internet connection for large downloads, it is entirely free.

Nope, OE doesn't have any spam filtering (afaik). Entourage does, but it's a paid product. (if you've got Office 2001, you've got it). There are some spam filtering programs, but I've never used them. I'd say yes, go for 9.2.2, along with Sushi's conditions.

Check http://www.versiontracker.com for these add ons.
