I haven’t tried to troubleshoot this yet but I was just wondering if anyone else was have problems with the Axiom website. I’ve been having an intermittent but steadily worsening problem of the site hanging while trying to load a page. The only way to clear it is to kill that instance of IE and reload the site in a new instance of IE. (yes I should use something other than IE ).

This never happens on any other site unless the site just can’t be reached (can’t ping it).

That would sound even better if you said you lived in Redmond, but Seattle is close enough.

I mentioned this several times many months ago!
Nothing has changed. One of their tech people said that there was nothing wrong but it still happens all the time.

This site works OK though.

I have major problems with Firefox 2 on windows (2k or xp) at work. The main page hangs and I can't do anything but kill it. I have Firefox 2 somewhat buggy at other sites as well though.

No problems with Firefox 2 on my mac at home, IE 6 at work, or Firefox 3.

But it has security bugs. I could probably hack into your computer right now if it weren't for that damn knick-knack you keep next to your monitor.

Sorry I missed your previous posts. This also started happening to me several months ago. At first is was very occasional and only a minor annoyance but now it happens ever couple page changes.

DNS seems to work fine . As near as I can tell once IE7 loads a page It doesn’t have to resolve the IP address again for that site. Tested this by flushing the DNS cashe and then switching between pages successfully on the Axiom site and then displaying the DNS cashe and found nothing there except the loop back interface.

Here’s some of what I’m seeing when the Axiom site slows/hangs.

1. Effects all 3 of my Windows computers XP and Vista running IE7.
2. Does not effect any of my Linux installs one of which is dual boot with XP.
3. Does not effect Firefox that I just loaded on one XP box.
4. Happens when security settings are maxed out or completely turned off including Norton or AVG depending on the machine, Windows firewall off in all cases but Router firewall still up.
5. Does not happen when running in Safe Mode.
6. Happens with or without any browser add-ons enabled.
7. Can still ping http://www.axiomaudio.com while IE7 session is hanging.
8. Once the IE7 hangs it effects all tabs in that browser window accessing that page at Axiom but no effect on other sites even in the same browser window. However, starting a new instance of IE7 allows access to the hanging page on the Axiom site.
9. Happens even with a static IP address for http://www.axiomaudio.com is in the Hosts file and verified it was loaded the DNS cashe.
10. It has gotten worse over the last couple months.
11. Sometimes the page never loads and times out other times it loads but takes minutes.

Summary:
Happens only to IE7 running windows in normal but not safe mode. It effects no other applications/utilities that I can find. Only seems to happen on the Axiom website and no other websites or forums.

Things I’ve tried:
1. Deleted all cookies.
2. Run every virus scan I can think of.
3. Tried with both max and no security settings (except router firewall always on)
4. Alternately turned on and off all browser helper objects.
5. Ran Hijackthis both in normal and safe modes and found nothing suspicious when comparing the logs.
6. Bypassed router and hooked PC directly to modem and it still happened.

Thanks for the feedback. Any other suggestions are welcome and would love to hear from anyone else who has seen this.

Firefox works fine and I’ll just stick with it for now but not being able to figure this out is really bugging me.

Actually I would say that Microsoft has sucked at least since producing MS-DOG. And the slow loads and hanging of the Axiom site are also happening under XP (including a fresh install I did last week when a boot drive failed.) So it looks like an IE thing but I’m still baffled as to what’s causing it and why I can’t recreate it on any other site.

I can understand why. I put it on a new computer for my father last November and it was the second worst OS install in 20 years. Thought it might be ready for prime time with the release of service pack 1 so I put it on a new PC for myself two weeks ago, and last week and this week…

Grunt,

Are you experiencing the problem just on the message boards, just on the main Axiom website or on both?

Thanks!

I've also on occasion had problems loading the message board using IE. What I normally do then is go back and get onto the main page then go to the forums from there.

Both to some degree but it all seems to relate to the message boards. I can always enter both the message boards and the main site from outside links. Once in the main site I can access anything without a problem. Once I enter the message boards from any link either outside or the main website the problems start. I can usually browse the message boards freely for a while and move back to the main site once. However, if I go back to the message boards and then try to get back to the main site I get the following message in the status bar:

“Waiting for http://www.axiomaudio.com/index.html…”

This persists for several minutes until the site pops up. Once this happens, any time I try to follow a link on the main page other than “Forums” or “Affiliates” I get the status message:

“Waiting for blah blah blah…”

Again this persists for several minutes until the page suddenly loads. I can always reload the forums page by refreshing or clicking on a link to it.

When a pages hangs or is slow to open this problem persists for that browser window. While one browser window is hanging I can open a new instance of IE and the page loads normally. Also I have set Ping to continuously ping http://www.axiomaudio.com while I cause a page to hang and there are never any dropped packets.

When I enter the forums for the first time everything always loads quickly. After the initial load whenever I follow a link in the forums the page will load quickly however one of two messages appears in the status:

“(1 item remaining) Waiting for http://www.axiomaudio.com/boards/ubbthreads.php?ubb=<insert info for page that’s trying to load”

Or

(1 item remaining) Downloading picture http://www.aximaudio.com/boards/global/images/interface/footer_bar.gif

Note that the page usually loads quickly when the above happens, however the message never disappears and the status bar never shows the page fully loaded.

Affiliates page always loads quickly and completely from any link on the site or forums. However on the “Affiliates” page it always throws the following error message when clicking on the “View your order” link:

“An error occured. Please contact us and let us know about it; please, mention the following message:"Fri Jun 06 22:59:45 2008->Inappropriate ioctl for device"“

I can’t say exactly when this started. I first noticed something a couple months ago when I would leave the “Who’s Online” page open and find that when I came back to it many minutes later there would be an error page displayed saying something like “Sever unavailable try back later”

I have full and easy access to the Axiom site/forums with Firefox right now so it’s not a real big deal to me but not being able to figure it out is getting irritating. I’m happy to answer any more questions or try any suggestions but it doesn’t seem like to big a deal as it doesn’t seem to effect that many people.

Cheers,
Dean

Hi Dean;

I've made a repair to a dead image link on the footer of the forums that could be causing the problem. Could you check to see if the issue is resolved when you get a chance?

Thanks,

Had all the last bunch of revisions of Firefox. Now on Firefox 3.0 RC2 and this sight is faster than ever for me. I used to have brief pauses when the forum list pages loaded up until this latest version. Never hanged, just 2-3 second pauses, like it was having trouble with bandwidth but wasn't. Never a pause since going to the RC version.

Hi James,

Looks like you got it. I hit every main link in the forums and switched from the forums to every link on the main website without a problem. Also all pages loading completely no more “(1 item remaining) waiting for…)” messages.

Thanks,
Dean

P.S. Thanks to everyone else who responded and for getting me off my lazy backside and trying Firefox.

Why is it when I click on the custom finish on the products page, it automatically takes me to the wood finish shop and not the vinyl?

You sure you're not clicking on the custom wood shop? When I click on custom finish shop it takes me to the vinyl page. When I click on custom finish (the title link), it takes me to a page where I can choose which shop.
